So you didn't watch Jones-Tarver 1 where Jones was clearly gassed after 4rounds, the commentators mention it a few times and pick up on how his body and everything looked far worse than it did against Ruiz

I'm not to sure but wasen't Hill considered a pound for pound talent at the time? Either way one of RJJ's better wins.

One of Royale "With Cheese" Jones' best wins on his resume.... Virgil Hill was indeed older, but also an awesome physical specimen like Jones was... The win is solid for team Jones...

The only grip I might have is, I think the fight contract called for Virgil Hill to come into the fight lighter than usual... Wasn't Hill forced to weigh no more than 172 pounds? It is possible that Hill was slightly drained going into the bout.?.?

    Note:

Maybe it was the other way around and Hill weighed 177 pounds.?.? Either way you slice it, something fishy about the weight limit bothered me there....

STILL! Jones landed a thudding shot to the ribs / liver area.......

I thought it was one of his most impressive wins but Hill fit in to the mold of the fighters Roy looked good against. Hill was not a puncher or a pressure fighter and Roy picked his spots comfortably. I always thought DM would have been a trouble fight for Roy and visa versa. Shame they never fought to unify. A friend of mine went down to Germany as a sparring partner for DM and he said he could not believe the power in the jab of DM and he said the guy had brutal power. My friend sparred with Heavyweights down but was very impressed with DM and felt he may be the one to beat Jones at the time because of his pressure and toughness.

We know that fight can never be made and I have mixed emotions but that was a fight that should have went down

Did Jones look better against Ruiz or Tarver 1?

Read the second sentence of my post you answered to. Then activate your brain, think and you will know.

true. i don't know what some of these posters are on about.

but with hill vs jones, hill had come in overweight thinking it was ok, then had to melt down. in addition, he took some heavy shots throughout the michalczewski fight, got a bit of a beating. in short, hill had been softened up and was not the fighter who brought 2 titles to germany, in any way.

Not to mention that Michalczewski-Gonzalez was a very close fight.Even when Dariusz got stopped against Tiozzo he was much more competitive than Roy was against oth Tarver and Johnson.

Yes but chin and power is what goes last, speed is what goes first.

Jones was past his prime in both the Tarver and Johnson fights, he was shot after he got knocked out against Johnson.

177 lb catchweight but Roy demanded a same day weigh-in, when the week of the fight rolled around.

Agree and thanks for posting the above.

The other huge factors with Dariusz is he is the rare breed that gets stronger as the fight goes on. And he is no front runner and has the ability to fight with swelling or cuts and not alter his gameplan--how many others can do that?

But by far the big thing with Dariusz is his accuracy. Man, was that guy accurate and he threw a picture perfect uppercut with his left hand even and how many guys have the balance to do that? Every punch in the book and the guy just never seemed to hit air and miss punches. Everything landing clean. Any guy bringing that set of tools to the table in any division is going to be formidable.
