too many to choose from.from every division.how do you pick one and what would make one tougher than another ??
All the guys mentioned above were TOUGH.. But to have fought through a good part of a career fighting with ONE EYE, and partial sight in the remaining eye, to me define's "toughness' !!!Taking on bigger Hofamers to boot ! Just put a patch on one eye, entering the ring, taking on everyone, worrying what if my remaining eye gets cut or closed, what then ? To me this defines " toughness". and the fighter of course is Harry Greb...One of a kind.
I was going to say MIckey Walker would be in my top 10 probably too, I also think Tony Zale had an incredibly tough chin - he took some horrific stuff from Cerdan - not really sure how someone doesn't get knocked out taking that kind of smashing continuously??? Probably Bat Nelson & Ad Wolgast also and Harry Greb. Jeanette also comes across as incredibly brave also - and Willard was a good shout too
George Chuvalo was a tough dude who was never knocked down and he fought Ali, Fraser, and Foreman. He retired as Canadian champ at the age of 41.
Gotta go with Greb. Stopped once early in his career and another time breaking an arm, number of overall fights and level of competition, taking on guys outweighing him by 40+ times on the reg, fighting himself blind Sounds like a pretty tough ******* to me.
Battling Nelson is my number 1. He was like a mini Chuvalo, except was a greater fighter and did his thing in 20-plus round fights. So many others. Ad Wolgast, Frank Klaus, Jack Dillon, Harry Greb, Jake LaMotta, Julio Cesar Chavez, George Kid Lavigne, Sailor Tom Sharkey......
How about Tex Cobb, took a licking vs Holmes and just kept coming, got attacked by a dozen or so bikers and broke his arm but still got himself and a friend out of there. Not a great boxer but a tough SOB.
