I wonder if Smith actually believes he will win the fight.

He is outclassed in every department by Degale. It's a mismatch really. He doesn't nothing as good as Degale does it. I always wonder whether fighters know they are up against it and think they might lose their fight unless they get lucky. These guys are smart enough to be able to analyse fights and see who would win. Like, for example, Carl Dilks actually think he was going to beat Degale or was he just going for the payday? Did Shannon Briggs actually think he was going to beat Vitali? Or are they just that Deluded? I mean, the likes of Stephen Smith and Bomber Bellew must be looking at this fight and thinking Smith has very little chance but they will obviously keep that to themselves.

i think a gold medal goes to peoples head, in the olympics degale never even shut his glove, his trainers improved him a lot, but he needs carefull steering, he isen't a hard puncher, but is more versatile than smith, cuts aside, i see a negative points win for degale.

I diagree.... Paul smith will definantly think he can win. Degale has good skills and was a good amateur but as a professional he hasn't been tested. Paul smith also had good pedigree as an amateur, I think ppl probably thought he could go further than he has 2day. But he has been in some tough battles lately, he is a real fighter and will be coming to scrap unlike dilkes etc. He has good boxing ability too although he sometimes doesn't use it. I think smith will perform well here.

Course he thinks he can win!

It's not mission impossible, DeGale hasn't had a gut check yet and this will probably be near enough as hard as it gets domestically for him IMO! (Other then Groves..this will be a more rougher fight)

Smith won't just fold like Dilks he will give it a go and i wouldn't be shocked if he has some early success but cream always rises to the top and Chunky will leave Liverpool with British Title!

Smith is the john ruiz of british boxing, always in ugly mauls, thats his only hope of making it competetive by clinching and roughing Degale up,Degale on points or late stoppage..

I dont think Smith would fight if he didnt think he would win, Degale is getting over-rated imo just now, I do think he will beat Smith but it won't be easy and it won't be by stoppage.

Smith certainly has a chance, he was a decent am himself and has showed that he can dig deep and go the full 12 rounds. It's easy to see why many people (myself included) think Degale will win but he does have several questions to answer.

Can he take a punch? Will he go 12 rounds? Can he dig deep if he has to? If he gets a cut how will this effect him? Does he have the power to hurt at championship level?

None of these have ever been asked of Degale as yet.

I think it depends how tough degale is tbh. It's a good fight, if he can beat Smith then he is walking the walk.

I don't understand why Smith would take it though, unless he just doesn't think degale is that good and it is his chance to be springboarded to the mainstream as the guy who beat the gold medalist.

Smith was on the verge of a WBO shot was he not?

I like this post, I agree, Smith can punch and is tough, he will clinch and lean on DeGale and give him the type of fight he hasn't had yet. He will ask the questions we all wanna know the answers to.

I do think DeGales skill will win this one, but I'm very interested in watching this fight unfold.

Smith could win this fight, obviously Degale is favoured, but what happens if smith takes him into the late rounds? Degale might gas out, who knows.
