Why isn't Williams/Martinez feting more hype.

Would've loved it, but unfortunately for us hardcore boxing fans, both Williams and Martinez are well spoken and respectful individuals, and not outright PPV phenoms just yet, so HBO is more willing to throw down those millions on building guys like Andre Berto who won't fight if he's not overpaid. :-(

 

i agree its 24/7 worthy but neither of these guys are still high profile fighters, which is a shame.

really looking forward to this fight, it'll pick up steam after saturday.

 

It's because it's so close to the Pac/Marg fight. The whole of this week is going to be taken up by Pac/Marg buildup, and the whole of next week will be taken up by its aftermath.

 

Too many good fights coming up, we need to hype them in order.

 

Itll get more hype after the Pac-Margo fight is over.

 

Its being overshadowed by Pac/Marg, and also........Outside of the diehards, Williams and Martinez are pretty unknown.

 

Its on regular HBO, no?

I doubt they're going to invest in it with a week to go, they're going to mention it on the night of Pac-Marg, but other then that.. naaw.

Its unfortunate too, considering their set of skillls, I look forward tot his bout, I wish more people, and the tools over at HBO paid these cats their due. I think after this bout the winner of this fight Martinez-Williams should get a shot at Mayweather..........As I dont think May-Pac will happen

 

I wish they would at least do one of those old Countdown shows like they used to. Has HBO done any of those in a while?

 

HBO doesn't pay the bulk of the production costs for 24/7: the promoters do.

So you only see 24/7 shows for those fights which are going to do enough PPV money that it makes it worthwhile for the promoters to invest £1M+ in making the show to begin with. In effect: Is the money spent making 24/7 likely to draw in enough extra PPV profits than it's going to cost to make the show? Only for the cards with the biggest draw does this begin to make sense.

Back on topic: Williams-Martinez is the fight I'm looking forward to the most this month. It's got a lot of love on these boards already, but it is a bit depressing how little play it's getting generally. Hopefully it will pick up after the golden child gets his fight of the way.
