Fernando Guerrero

I have been a huge Fernando supporter ever since I moved to Salisbury MD 3 years ago, but I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I am over Fernando's next opponent!!! Fernando is supposed to be on track to get a title shot next year if he keeps progressing. His win over Smith was a solid launch pad type fight, for the next echelon. The KD he suffered produces both positive and negative insights. Fernando is not really a chinny guy that I am worried about, but his defense has needed improvement as he leaves himself much more wide open than he should particularlly for one who fights his style. He definately needs to shore that flaw up. The resiliancy he showed at being able to come back from that and win speaks volumes as well. With Jacob's (who recieved unjustly more recognition than Fernando) losing this was the prime chance for Guerrero to take the next step and to position himself as a challanger to take note of....

Willis Lockett 12-10-5...coming off of 3 straight defeats including a recent loss to Pryor Jr....heck Pryor Jr. would have been at least been a decent guy, although himself still below the level Fernando should be fighting. I certainly hope that Fernando's team knows what they are doing, and that he is not being mismanaged. Fernando's last 4 opponents all were more credible than Lockett, and it seems almost as if they are pulling the reins back and I am not sure why.

I still like Fernando, and believe that he will obtain one of the alphabet titles, and time will tell how high he can soar. But this seems a step backwards...Oh well!

 

Not sure how you scored it??? Even if you didn't deduct the point from Smith (as a judge you are supposed to) in the mid rounds, he just didn't do enough to merit the win. I don't see anyway Smith could have earned a draw let alone a win..and robbed is completely out of the question IMHO!

 

I had it 96-94 Fernando....although I will agree that the 3rd judge of 97-91 must have given every close round to Fernando.

 

While I would still rather see Fernando take a higher profile fight this would have been a more legitimate fit for someone who has the goals of fernando within the next year. Both Fernando & Lee stopped walker this year, and would have been a more legitimate match up!

 

I agree that the MW division is loaded with potential at this time...Out of curiosity which of the prospects do believe are better than him or expect more out of???

 

I agree unfortunately! Now is the time he should take a step up against a Lee/Jacobs type fighter and if he can overcome that he should be ready for the tier just below the title holders to get in position for a title shot 3 fights down the line. I agree that this makes it a minimum of 4 fights away and likely 5-6 should he be able to keep going.
