they'd have bought it - with ****in jam on it!!! :deal

"who was to know poonsawat was goin to do that to dunne" - most people on here. I said in my article that Dunne would be on the canvas more than one occasion in the fight.

The public are fools (Haye-Harrison anyone?) but not that foolish. NOBODY would've bought that.
Munroe was as about as well-known as Poonsawat to non-boxing fans...

Yeah I know the Celtic Title isn't his lifetime ambition. Just meant that McElhinney could be Carl's next fight since there aren't too many "Celtic" contenders, and that McElhinney was also in prizefighter final (albeit by default)

Carlos might have to sit tight for a bit now anyway IF Munroe-Booth are going to square off for the British Title

i have to say i agree with mooreser here, the just thing was to take the Poonsawat fight. furthermore I don't think the general Irish public would have bought the story of dropping a world title for a grudge match against munroe. Whilst we're not the greatest sporting nation in the world we love the "have a go" attitude- Collins calling out Roy Jones, Jack Charlton & Italia 90 etc etc and the public would have expected to keep and defend his world title. The passive boxing fan (i.e. the people who make pay per view pay) has little understanding of the complexities of boxing. ask most people who watched dunne's fight on telly some basic boxing questions and they'll shrug their shoulders so there is no way that this same public could have comprehended someone voluntarily giving up a world title instead of taking a mandatory defence. there are some stories that just can't be flogged.

had he moved up in weight and fought vasquez i think people might have bought it as it was a like for like scenario but most people would have rightly seen trhough a world champion fighting for a european title

Just back from the Haye weigh-in

O'Brien's spongebob squarepants jocks got the biggest cheer of the day.

This is what he took the fight for and was lapping it up.

Great to see the charges were dropped against Steve Collins. I always liked him on RTE on the panel in the early days. I wouldnt mind to see Setanta gettiing him in for the Frampton fight. Or would RTE take him back on. Saying that with Dunne on the panel now as well it looks unlikely. Maybe 1 of those 3 may replace Magee on comentary soon.

The Woolshed usually shows the boxing and the Players Lounge in Fairview has it too
