This is what is wrong with boxing, when a heavily favoured Rios stoops to cheating against a last minute replacement. The following is what went down:

Rios weighed in at 140.25lbs and the contract was 139lbs. Rios had until 6:40pm, 2 hours from the initial time he stepped on the scale to lose the 1.25lbs. Rios returned 90 minutes later sat down on the platform and was seen taking a sip of cranberry juice before stepping on the scale (nude) and weighing in at 137lbs at which time Chris Johnson yelled bull**** he’s cheating as one Rios’s camp members was lifting him up while holding the towel. Rios then immediately stepped back on the scale and it registered 139.8lbs and he had only 30 minutes more to make weight. Rios returned at 6:30pm and weighed in at 139.2lbs, the Rios camp insisted that was good enough and the Lowther camp refused to accept. A yelling match ensued between Chris Johnson and Team Rios and the commissioner Dickie Cole. Within a few minutes a financial agreement was reached!

The Lowther camp was being petty and pathetic by arguing over a couple of ounces after Rios made a 2nd attempt to make weight.

In fairness to Rios, he was not given enough time when he was called to fight. That towel thing is b/s though. Everyone in that team are cheaters.

    It's not petty!

Rules are rules. If the contracted weights were 139.2 lbs, then all is good.

Rios tried to cheat and there is no doubt that this was happening, so now he has to pay for it financially!

Good on coach Chris Johnson for keeping a keen eye, despite the fact his fighter has a slim chance of winning!

Just because they are professionals doesn't mean its not a struggle to make weight.

So? The contracted weight is the contracted weight. He should have made it first time around. When a team tries to get away with cheating over the weight and then insists that they are close enough, they had every reason to kick off. You don't see others stepping on the scales and then claiming they are close enough to the weight for it to make no difference. John Murray got stripped of his 135 British Title for being about an oz overweight and he accepted that. Rules are rules.

Rios made 135 just a couple of months ago, now he's 'struggling' to make 139?

There's no title of any significance on the line in this fight and bucking over 2 ounces is dumb just like Rios corner man trying to lift him up is dumb, 2 ounces ain't gonna be no difference in the outcome of this fight.

So you think Tomasz Adamek wouldn't have struggled to get down to 179 pounds a couple of months after he fought Chad Dawson?
