Why does everyone seem to think Margo has a real chance, really?

In Pacquaio's case it isn't. I agree here.

Margo has a real chance if he can close the distance fast enough, and while he is there in Pacquiao's face he does enough damage to accumulate a stoppage....I doubt Margo has the foot speed to do that, but if he can effectively close the distance, and cut-off the ring he has a REAL chance...

I'm picking Pacquiao UD, Tony will be in this fight and have his moments...

Like I said, why did people give Margo a serious chance again? Because he was bigger? Really?

Exactly. This fight was made to appeal to the casual mainstream audience. REAL boxing fans knew this was a mismatch.

401 shots LANDED to the head

    for some of you thats:

    100+ to the chin

    100+ to the left eye

    100+ to the right eye

divide it up however you like long as you come up with 400 and fukkin 1 shots landed to the head.....in ONE night.....but Margo's camp said they worked on defense though.....:verysad

    :!:

Legit boxing fans knew damn well Margo didn't change ****, and this was just a easy money making fight to keep Pacman in the ring, while still building up a Mayweather bout.

Still asking that? Margarito had Pacquiao in trouble to the head and body a few times, which Pacquiao admitted. Pacquiao said it was his hardest fight and he couldn't believe how strong Margarito was. Pacquiao is reported to have suffered chest pains and trouble from a blow to the kidneys. "His wife Jinkee had to assist him in walking during the Thanksgiving Mass after the bout, the report added." Yeah, easy money. Easy fight. 100% predictability that Pac could weather liver shots that stop most fighters from a man that dwarfs him. I absolutely stand by saying Margarito had a 25% chance of stopping him though Pac was the rightful favorite and Margarito had only the chance of KDs to get a points victory. That was a very tough, grueling fight though, don't kid yourself, Griz. Pacquiao was hurting during and has been after. This was an impressive victory and Pac had to dig for it.

But, if you consider this to be an easy money/glorified sparring session type of face, that's up to you. I think you're wrong, mate.

And? In what way does that negate anything I said or quoted? Besides, the reasoning at the time for Pac/Cotto coming out about fifty/fifty in predictions here was...Bigger man, didn't know if he could take the punches that he would undoubtedly take. Reasoning that was sound and just as sound when he was to take an even bigger, more durable fighter that had already stopped Cotto (in earlier and more decisive fashion at that) in an even higher weight limit. My statement is not that Cotto wasn't a tough fight, was it? It's only that Margarito did in fact have a chance of victory and it was not at all an easy fight and that was clearly demonstrated.

I agree and I think it also attests to the fighting mentality and spirit that Pacquiao possesses. He's willing to take risks and trade with guys that are bigger and stronger than him just so that he can give the fans a crowd pleasing fight and to satisfy that aggressive hunger in the ring.

    Well said.

But Manny brusies easier nowadays (almost always) against these bigger guys. Just because Manny brusied doesn't mean the fight was in the ball park of close.

I mean OF COURSE he got hurt a little, those bruises werent from a tickling contest. But I'm gonna stick to my guns, why on Earth would a true knowledgable fan truely beilieve Margo was gonna win, BARRING upset of the decade is beyond me.

Remember the massive fight (Pac-Floyd) that looms in the balance if Pacquaio lost, no way anyone that's involved would chance that amount of money (A tenth of a Billion at least). Boxing is a business, and Pacquaio is surrounded by the sports smartest/most corrupt businessmen.

Manny should retire. He's accomplished so much. He dominated Margo, but yes he did get hit some. Show a pic of Margo's face now. Oh, there isn't one. His face is literally broken, ie his orbital bone - he is going into surgery for this. He is ****ed up. Pac beat the breaks off this guy.

Well, don't move the goal posts, J-man. The question was why would anyone think he had a real chance. I didn't see any strong case for favoring him, of course. And didn't. But, I don't see it being far-fetched at all that any knowledgeable boxing fan had to have doubts that Pacquiao might, just might be hitting a wall finally. Because, basically, you don't know when it's going to happen, it just ****ing happens if you keep bringing on bigger, tougher guys, skill-levels aside really. The exact same doubts that came before Cotto with regards to eventually "hitting a wall". Richard Dwyer is far from right all the time but I think he's a highly knowledgeable boxing fan and astute gambler. He actually did outright favor Margarito, though suggested a straddle (which worked, incidentally, for those that follow that sort of thing). Anyway, I think if anyone really looks at the shots Pacquiao did take and especially the body shot he even admitted had him quite hurt, they would know that the danger of losing by knockout---a rather real chance of victory for Margarito- was present for all to see in that fight. Pacquiao just proved all the more insanely and uniquely tough by getting through it in masterclass fashion.

Edit: I have to agree about Pacquiao bruising more these days with bigger guys...But, again, so he's going to take on an even bigger guy, you have to have the concern that it will finally be too much.
