How on Earth did Audley Harrison win a gold medal?

The difference between fighting only three rounds with a head guard on, in which it is all about "scoring points". He was good at that form of boxing.

Throughout Audleys entire pro career he has never once demonstrated any boxing heart. He has been consistently scared to throw his own punches for fear of being hit, and has never looked like he enjoys fighting. In essence, he is the Fraud.

 

How is Haye a world champ with finishing prowess like that ?

 

Like any sport the difference between amature and pro is huge and to make the change youth plays a big part.

 

Yeah thats always been my feelings about Harrison, he was already getting on when he won the gold and after signing that BBC contract he took it easy for years. By the time he actually faced a decent test he was what 34?

I doubt he'd ever have had great heart but thats way too late to try and devolp one.

 

Maybe a head guard was his 'safety blanket'

maybe getting ko'd took away his invincibility and thats why hes like a rabbit in the headlights when being punched.

if this was a noranl job, he would have been sacked for being incapable of performing the tasks required

It was such a disgrace that it's hard to wrap a head around it.

Talking all this crap like "My time has come", "Yes, I can" etc..

.. then walking out and barely throwing a ****ing punch???!

I think guys here are right. He was pretty good at this amateur "chess" playing. Plus he was fighting much younger guys..

When he was to show heart, it turned out that there's problem.. He has no heart to fight.

One of the dumbest sentences I've ever read here. Boxing is not like every other sport in that regard, The best amateurs are miles ahead of the majority of pros when it comes to boxing skill. Age in itself is no indicator of anything.
Again I hear this nonsense about headguards in amateur boxing. They make absolutely no difference, they just help prevent cuts and that's it. For a boxing board alot of people don't know the first thing about boxing.

 

So you're saying that amateur boxing is almost like pro boxing? Now that is a dumb sentence.

Head gears not only prevent cuts. On average, being 28 you ARE more likely to win over 19year olds. But what's the most important, when it goes beyond 3 two-minute rounds, it is a whole different game. A game, in which Audley lacks.

I agree amateur boxing is now very different to the pro game due to the scoring system. Anyone that can't see that is an idiot.
