Why did Tiger Matthews retire?

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by robertowen1983, Sep 28, 2010.

  1. I heard he was a great prospect. I also read a glowing endorsement by Geoff Thomas, yet he retired undefested after 3 fights?

    Does anyone have any info?

    no idea mate :yep

got any more info on him

  3. Not really.

Was a welterweight from Liverpool. Fought once in 2004 and twice in 2005, winning all 3, and didn't fight again.

Geoff Thomas once said he had the potential to go all the way.

Vaughan Promotions said he was one of the most exciting amateur fighters from Liverpool.

No idea why he retired, fought him in the amateurs he was absolutely class- probably the best boxer I fought competitively potentially. Ricky Burns, Steve Foster jnr, Lee McAllister, Oisin ***an and Steve Murray included. Real shame- could have done lots I think. I'll see if I can dig up a tape of him kicking my ass. :)

  5. Would be interested to find out what happened.

I read he took a 2 year break from boxing in between the end of his amateur career and his pro debut because he lost interest in the sport.

Maybe he just didn't like Boxing - hope it wasn't an injury or anything like that.
