I dont think so......after the 3rd round, Cotto was done......and as far as offense goes, Margarito landed more frequently than did Cotto, and was offensively still dangerous up till about I would say round 9 or 10. Lets remember here now, Cotto fought in survival mode from the midpoint on........Margarito was never in such a mode......he fought to win all the way through. Margarito put up much better resistance.
I admit I haven't seen all of AM's fights but when was the last time did his face look like a train wreck? His right eye looked looked really messed up.
I think Margarito was the most successful with the jab out of everyone Pac has fought so far. Pac was able to time Margarito's jab for a bit and shoot a hard straight left under or inside the jab, but Margarito used his range well there for the most part. Pac and Roach actually brought back an old strategy he used the first time he fought Barrera, where the reality is that you can only cover so much at a time. Pac fired a ton of high double-jab+hard straight left to the body combos early on, and it obviously took effect on Margarito as the fight wore on. Barrera has noted on ESPN's Golpe y Golpe just how much that old combo Pac uses wears you down quickly. Margarito's arms were forced upwards in order to defend Pac's jabs/looping rights around the guard, leaving the midsection open.
While I believed that Pac would win against Margarito by UD, I was highly doubtful if he could hurt the Tornado with his punches. But damn! look at Marg's face!
Margo did better than Cotto and Clottey. Then again they are fighting at a higher weight. I'm not sure how Margo would have fared had they fought at 147lbs.
:good. Cotto definitely pressed the survival mode button and shifted to reverse gear after round 6, and clottey? never mind
