Sorry if this has been talked to death about before, I just joined. I wanted to know what other people thought about their first clash? Me personally I thought Martinez won.
I had Martinez winning, but narrowly. Extremely close, I thought. I have no problem with Paul winning it anyway.
this was my post back then. round 1: Both guys dropped but Martinez was the better man that round, 10-9 martinez round 2: Martinez lands greatly, clear round for him, 10-9 martinez round 3: Again Martinez is putting on a good display of counterpunching, lands some good right hooks and williams although fighting better then in round 2 loses this round, 10-9 Martinez round 4: very equal round, great round williams edged it gave him the round 10-9 williams. round 5: Williams starts the round good hitting martinez hard, martinez recovers a bit during the round but williams is still throwing more and better now, 10-9 williams round 6: Another round for Williams hes controlling the fight right now although he is way to open and gets hits a lot, but does enough to win another round, fight completely even now on the scorecard, 10-9 Paul Williams round 7: williams lands the more effective clean punches and wins this round, 10-9 Williams round 8:Williams didn't do enough and got hit to much by martinez who starts to become busier then the previous round, gave it to Martinez. Martinez 10-9 round 9:Very even round but Williams is a bit more active and that jab scores for him eventhough he also gets hit i give this close round to him. 10-9 williams round 10:very good round by Martinez, lands a couple of big hits on pw in the beginning of the round a he lands better puches throughout the whole round. I have it a even fight right now with 2 to go. 10-9 Martinez round 11: very even fight but i think martinez did just enough to win the round, very close though. 10-9 martinez round 12: Both guys are exhausted and just wailing at each other, Williams seem to have a little more left and he is a little busier this round. Final score: 114-114 DRAW First time i saw it i thought williams won 115-113 there are some very close rounds, both could have deserved the win but it shouldnt be more then 7-5. There need to be a investigation for that pierre benoist judge, he is either corrupt or a total idiot that either way should never ever be allowed to be a judge for a fight, its impossible to give Martinez only 1 round 119-110 is a total disgrace. We need a rematch of this fight Martinez totally deserved it and it would be great
I don't think the fight will be as entertaining as the first. I expect both guys to be cagey at times, due to them knowing more about one another. But I envisage Martinez working to a decision win.
Hard to say, honestly. Here are some things to consider. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Martinez was a replacement for Pavlik, and Williams wasn't quite prepared for him in their first fight. Williams was completely schooled by Carlos Quintana, yet came back even more focused and knocked him out in the first round in a rematch. To me, Williams is the wildcard in this fight. We know what Martinez is made out of and how well he can perform. The unknown factor is how Williams will perform in this rematch. For me, it's too close to call.
