BHOP should have said flat out slick fighters cause guzman was around but he ain't black (even tho he look it) zab - berto - floyd - shane weren't an option until like 2 years ago alexander & bradley weren't relevant until like 2 years ago
can someone please name a slick african american fighter that pac could have taken - that was a bigger boxoffice draw or greater boxing challenge than the fighters he fought at the time he fought them? im being serious- not sarcastic here- i m trying to think. my feeling without research- is that since his weight climb out of the mexican dominated ranks into 140+ , he fought diaz- warm up test at 140 oscar - which was the biggest fight he could take. hatton- biggest $ , name and challenge fight. cotto - " " clottey- questionable- black but not american . margarito- questionable every other fight i feel he fought the best fighter available at the time- in terms of money (which lets face it- is the main incentive), and legacy/ challenge and most importantly , availability. excluding floyd, my feeling is that instead of clottey , he could have fought berto , or mosely- but both were tied up with each other, or im sure he would have preferred that fight. bradley was not a draw, nor was alexander , at the time- and both were light- and he was already venturing up to bigger men as a challenge. margarito? well sure- he wasnt deserving, and now in hindsight - seems made to measure. who could he have fought? allt he black fighters above. i think the whole thing though, is ridiculous, and so racially ignorant and insenstive, and the reason why people think in such racially broad terms. I think every fighter is , to some degree, matched well if they are promoted well, but i think we all know pac is not afraid of any fighter. I dont understand what floyd and pac have to do to get peoples respect- they have to jump thru so many hoops to impress people. once he beats a black fighter what will he need to do next? speaking aside from that though, pacs ability to fight slick black fighters ??!?!?! i mean the guy is a pretty slick fighter himself, they seem to think he just walk in there and punches guys in the head and they fall over, he has remarkable skill and reflexes, footwork as well as power and balls. the insinuation with black fighters is that they are quicker, faster, have better defence and are smarter in the ring than other fighters. i find it kind of insulting to say the least. marquez was a slick counter puncher and has all the traits- of what hopkins wants, but isnt black. but in terms of the implication hopkins is making, i dont see what pac has shown that would make anyone believe that he couldnt fight a black american fighter!?!? has he shown slowness?? lack of pucnhing accuracy?!? i dont know what theyre getting out of watching him fight, but it just seems black american fighters wont give the man his props- despite the fact that he his doing something that none has done before, regardless of colour. if he were afraid or nbeing made to avoid black fighters- than he must e colour blind in wanting to fight floyd, becasue he looks pretty black to me. this is all bull**** to be honest, i loved hopkins as a fighter, but hte **** he says like that a white boy would never beat him, and this, makes him sound like a guy still in philly prison rather than a partner in the most powerfuil boxing promotional company in the world. embarrassing. for himself, his company, and most importantly, his race. pac dosent think like this, educatied people dont think like this.
Is there a reason why Pacquiao moved up to 154lbs and snatched a so called title from Paul Williams weight class, Paul Williams is the man at 154lbs why not fight him? Why not unify the welterweight titles against Berto instead of fighting shot fighters like Margarita to fatten his wallet?
because Arum wanted to keep all them money in house, and because Williams is a 6'2" freak. i doubt manny fears anybody- but roach and arum did steer him away from wiliams i believe, but can you blame them? look at the size disparity, his size equivalent in terms of height and mass is someone like nate campbell. one step at a time mate, i believe they wanted to see him against margarito, who was big but they knew they could beat, before they threw him in against williams or martiinez. now i dont think they have the same concerns. did anyone ***** about roy jones not fighting lewis or the klichkos when he moved up? some - but lets be realistic, he s a great fighter, but not superman. if he could he d fight anyhone- we alll know pac is fearless, but arum is a money hungry promoter who goes in house first, ppv money second, then legacy, and finally matchmaking last. i honestly think the colour of someones skin is the last thing that arum considers when making a fight for pacquiao.
The slickest boxer that he has ever faced has been Marquez, and we know those fights were very close. Imagine if Marquez was able to counter with speed. Pac fought Morales right after he lost to Raheem. I like Pac, but B-hop has made a good point. I think him saying Black fighters was not the right thing, but slick fighters I believe was his intention..
would bhop consider himself a fast slick black american boxing style? im surprised he isnt gonna boil to 160 and start calling pac out. i get what bhop is attempting to say and still say he's wrong, the fact that he is prone to making openly prejudiced/racial comments makes ppl think racial, and be honest his comments are most likely pushed by his racism. just a shame he gets a pass on it since he's black i feel.
Nobody faults Pac for earlier. The comment has some racial components, but it is much more a style observation and Black seem to be disproportionatly represented in that style. There are a few guys Pac could have reached out to if that was his intent. No Pac has made it clear up to 154 and NEVER faced a Black guy. Really? Come on man. Nate Campbell has been calling the man out for YEARS about it!
As a black man this comment is ******ed. I love Bhop but this is a strange comment. I think Bhop is hating on Manny because Bhop nobody is paying attention to Bhop vs Pacal and Manny is the talk of boxing even detracting from some Golden Boy fights. People not asking Bernard how do you feel for your fight with Pascal but who do you like in Manny vs. Floyd. What slick black fighters were there for Manny at 125-135? Does he want him to fight Judah and Corrley lol. Even Mayweather doesn't fight like a typcial black fighter. Maybe Mayweather isn't even black because it seems like Hopkins is trying to say a black fighter wouldn't duck Manny. Bhop also said he would never lose to a white boy and Joe Calzhage beat him and last I checked he is mucho blanco.
:rofl:hey:gooddeal so a guy who was great said something not so great is always right all the time?? . Styles make fights. Floyd could choose to fight any style he chooses i reckon. He just has to make the right choice thats all. Its the fear of the consequences that Floyd has a problem with perhaps?? If Manny were to fight and beat Floyd it must be within the first 4 rounds. This is when Floyd is most vulnerable from a historical perspective:rasta
....it's unfair to categorize the old Hopkins with prime Hopkins who was genuinely a slick technician and wright was not boring... that's something i never heard before
