This thread warms my heart. Every ATG, champ 'n contender who trained at Stillmans gym 'n bent an elbow at the Neutral Corner Bar.
None super famous however my missus bought me Hoyfield "becoming hoyfield" and has a great picture of her with Evanders arm round her! I'll ****ing knock the ******* out for touching her!
Tyson, Winky, Mayweather, De La Hoya, Corrales, Tarver, Mosley, Pac, Quartey, Hatton, Forrest, few others...
Joe Frazier, Bernard Hopkins, Paulie Malingaggi, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Roger Mayweather, Demetriaus Hopkins and Oscar....i seen Shane and Sugar Ray Leonard didn't actually get to meet them bt I would love to meet these dudes
Not well known pros but pros, former pros, and I'm sure future pros go to my gym(Don't know their names). I see alot of talent in my sparring partners and if they maintain what they do I'm confident they'll be champs in the pros one day. My coach teaches us alot of skill&technique and I feel like I'm training for pros not ama's. I go to the Cherry Lane Youth Boxing & Fitness gym in Laurel,MD.
Rocky Balboa about 2 months before he fought Clubber Lang. Didn't understand a f*cking word he said...
I saw Vernon Forrest and Hasim Rahman in attendance at boxing fights (seperate events). They both signed my ticket stubs.
Lived in Vegas for years. Ran into so many, the biggest dicks were Ishe Smith and Bonecrusher Addams whatever his name is, the little guy. Jackasses. Mayweather was awesome and friendly, ran into him about ten times and he was always nice. Shook my hand and talked, he trained at the same 24 hour fitness on trop and decatur I went to as did Hassim Rahman, who was immensely strong but I never talked to him. Brain Villoria was super nice, but tiny as heck. I feel twice as big as him even though I am only a few pounds heavier. Very very nice guy who took the time to talk in the middle of his training. Winky Wright - skinny legs, but friendly. Saw him training for his fight with Taylor at my boxing gym and he looked super sharp. Sam Peters, freaking huge, training for his fight with Toney. John Ruiz, fairly nice, a little slow talking, right before he fought Valuev. Also Jameel Macline was one of the friendliest guys ever, but freaking enormous. That guy is massive, and he came over to me and started talking. Derreck Harmon worked at my boxing gym and was always super cool. In general the famous ones were great and the middle of the road ones like Ishe thought they were God.
It sucks. I have yet to meet prime time boxer. Met some journeymen at a gym but no big names. Though I've met tons of MMA fighters all at Xtreme Couture.
Never met a well known boxer in my life, the only one that comes close was the by then already exposed former WBU :wooo Cruiser "champ" Don Diego Poeder, who lives in the same city. After that I also put serious questionmarks on his mentioned 6' 1" size, because he looked quite small to me.
Some randoms off top of head: From the gym I used to go to in South Philly some offhand: Charles Brewer, Roger Russell (fought Foreman/Patterson in 70s), Aslanbek Kodzoev (who i consider a friend, fought guys like Pirog, my favorite memory from gym was him whooping Kermit Cintron), Buster Drayton, etc. From events: Jake Lamotta, Carlos Ortiz, Gerry Cooney, Jimmy Ellis, Chuck Wepner, Emile Griffith, etc. From a visit to Gleasons one weekday: Al Cole, Vivian Harris, Joey Gamache, Juan Laporte, Mitch Green, etc. From other gyms in Philly: Bernard Hopkins, ran inta Bouie Fischer at a flea market, funny guy From local fights: Harry Yorgey (really nice guy), Eddie Chambers, I should be thinking of more though From weighins/events: Arturo Gatti (coolest dude ever at the top level of thier popularity), Mickey Ward, Harold Lederman, James Toney, Vaily Jirov, oops gotta run, will include more later ie Joey Giardello, Steve Cunningham (nicest guy ever!), etc.
Oh yeah, and the girl I lived with in Las Vegas for about two years started dating Mike Tyson after me. Ugh. Talk about changing types.
Bernard Dunne, Andy Lee and Matthew Macklin. All really nice guys, though Dunne was probably the best out of the three.
