Ive not boxed for awhile because i dislocated my shoulder and other ****..... But i was asked by my younger brother how he increases punching power, and as embarassin as it was i didnt kno.... ive boxed on and off for 6 years and i didnt no!! Any help fam?!
supposedly Mike Tyson said his punching power came from a lot of heavy bag work. I'd say work on getting your legs stronger, that's where your power comes from. Look at guys like Tyson, Foreman, Pacquiao and the like...look at how big and strong their legs are. Now, if he's a tall, rangy sort of fighter, gravity will do a lot of it for him, just have him straighten up his punches.
ITS IN YOUR WRISTS. If they are strong your fist follows through. A weak wristed fighter is as good as a sledgehammer that has a loose head. Hits hard, but budges on impact.... what a shame that upperbody strength got lost at the end of an arm. Artificial support and padding from a glove does not do much for your hand strength development I'm afraid. Do every type of exercise outside of your normal boxing curriculum which will strengthen your palms, fingers, wrists. Grip is one part of it, the other is forearm development. The other is against popular advice: get a sack of maize or rice and bare-fist punch it until your knuckles go sore. Skin will go red, and stress be felt on knuckle bones -just rest a few days. But do it progressively for a few months and you'll notice a very BIG difference in your shots. Do it for a few more years and People wonder why when you hit them they felt a mortar shot. No secrets nor myths here, just basic anatomy. Disclaimer being that, power isnt everything. There's a limit to how much you can abuse it, and then people will eventually work around it.
