Taylor didn't beat ANYONE's ass at the the world class level - certainly no one at his weight, and certainly not Bernard Hopkins in either of their fights. Hopkins was the champ and should have gotten the nod in a close debatable decision - the ONLY reason he didn't was because HBO was pushing Taylor hard because they had signed a big contract with him and DiBella, and the boxing establishment hated Hopkins because of his independence and outspokenness. They were close fights yes, but close fights in which Hopkins did more than enough to get the nod, and he should have.

And Taylor did NOTHING afterward to dispel this impression that he was basically an accidental champion, placed there by boxing "politricks." He got a gift draw against Winky Wright and then fought a couple of easy defenses against lighter-weight guys - one of which, against Spinks, he arguably LOST - and then he got totally exposed when he had to fight prime fighters at his own weight.

Taylor was an HBO-created fraud, pure and simple. And it is a CRIME that great fighters like Bernard Hopkins or Winky Wright got robbed to keep this con going.

Taylor was a good fighter not a great fighter. I think he beat hopkins in both fights and lost clearly to Winky. I think Felix Trinidad would have KHTFO just like Abraham and Pavlik. Taylor is a good boxer, but his stamina issues make it very difficult for him to beat pressure fighters with power. The only reason the Hopkins fight is controversial to some is that Taylor gassed down the stretch. Froch was completely outboxed by JT and JT's stamina failed him once again.

Taylor never had what it took aganist higher level fighters, but at least he tried. Thats all I can give him. I didn't like him much as a fighter.

Hopkins and Wright aren't "higher level fighters?" Did you really say that?

He lost to both of them - or should have, if it weren't for HBOs judges!

I see your butt is still sore. I'd see a doctor. It should have healed by now.

I'm a fan of Taylor simply for the heart he showed in his fight against Pavlik and then signing up to fight him in a rematch right away. The guy truly believed in himself and that is much to appreciate. He never feared tough competition. With the second loss to Pavlik, he still signed up in the tough super six series. Though he was short on his goals, he was not short in having the heart of a warrior...WAR JERMAINE!!

    I'll say this.....

Taylor was one of the few fighters who got to the top of the sport and still tired to fight the best guys out. No careful match making like what Floyd and Pac do occasionally. Just straight up fighting the best guys. Styles weren't even a question.
Remember he only took the Spinks and Ouma fights after guys like Abraham and Mora turned him down. Sturm didn't want any parts of him either.

Taylor is the reason Hopkins waited for Dawson to lose at 175 so he could really justify not fighting him. All that explosive athleticism and speed gave Hopkins nightmares. He'll fight Pascal since Pascal's technical skills are so flawed he feels confident in exploiting them. He never felt that way about Dawson. I wonder why?

Besides Taylor, Corrales is the only guy I can think of who really had a nice string of tough fights running together.

Anybody remember the episode of FNF where Hopkins basically gave the blueprint on how to beat Taylor. They showed his bad habits in dropping his hand after throwing and everything. Then later on when he fights Taylor he found it a lot harder to deal with then nit picking highlight clips while in a studio.

Taylor gets my respect. Very good fighter nothing less, nothing more.

boo, the haters are trying to have it both ways. on the one hand, jt is a bum who really lost to these atgs....on the other hand, these atgs struggled w/ jermain. either way, jermain gave all sorts of hell to the #1 and the #3 p4p fighters in the world. the haters would love to say otherwise, but they can't. and that is why they are even more hateful.
