OK... so whose going to be the first jackweed to say it was a bad stoppage?

If that's the way the fight was meant to end, that's the way it was meant to end.

In my day, this is what boxing fans wanted to see. Real finishes, not fights brought to premature conclusions while guys were still on their feet.

I expected more controversy. Still, it's too soon for me to start respecting everybody.

Bayless now has 6 consecutive TKO stoppages. That stoppage was bad.
Did he warn Katsidis to defend himself? You simply do not stop Championship fights at that stage. If Katsidis continues to take a beating okay, but he looked to be recovering and landed a clean left, without a return shot from Marquez and he stops it? Bayless let Pacquaio beat the **** out of Cotto where he should have stopped the fight 2 or 3 rounds earlier. Let the fighters fight. I'm not suggesting Katsidis would have won, but in my mind he did win the first half of that round.

By most accounts, Katsidis was giving up a point that round on the sheer ass-beating alone. I saw this stoppage coming a mile away. It also helped that the Berto stoppage happened earlier, and compared to that one I had no complaints about the Marquez stoppage.

    Say that to Katsidis mom.

    That man was seriously hurt.

When a pressure fighter has taken a beating for 8 rounds and then in the last round he is the one retreating it is over man.

I mean as far as a casual fan you wanna see that dramatic KO. It was coming believe me. JMM is a terrific finisher.
But as a boxing fan who reads and talks boxing all day i see what these guys go through. Just call it a day and move on Katsidis. Dont ruin it all in one night.

    what fight were you watching?!

katsidis actually won the 7th and 8th rounds and was coming on strong. jmm turned it all around in the 9th when he landed his uppercuts which clearly hurt katsidis and the ref stopped it.

You know, I think it would've been a perfect situation for a good ol' fashioned standing 8 count....if that call wasn't basically extinct lol.

Agreed. Although I do think Katsidis had recovered a bit. Better a punch too early than too late. What was the sense in continuing. JMM was landing at will, and with everything.

    Which round? The last one?

Either way, I betcha mama Katsidis was watching that fight and was glad it was stopped when it was.

The stoppage wasn't horrible, it wasn't perfect but wasn't bad either. Katsidis was out on his feet, when the referee waved it off you can clearly see he wasn't steady. Taking more punishment wasn't going to do him good, he can live to fight another day.

If you're 69 and on your way to the cemetery Katsidis is 30 and has a lot to look forward to without the need to get damaged early.

A tad early if anything, but Katsidis did not look good at all, was not defending himself (had his hands down), and was swaying all over the ring like a drunken sailor on a boat. I think Bayless saw the look on his face and decided he had no choice.

I said in the RBR thread that it seemed "mildly premature", by which I meant that I didn't have a massive problem with it, but it just seemed a 'little bit' early. I wouldn't go so far as to point fingers at Bayless over it, though. I've seen much worse, and it's a fine line between "letting things continue" and "letting things go on far too long" (as with Enzo and Briggs).
