baton. nunchucks look cool but can lack direction and even if you get the direction right, they will lose direction upon impact, thus needing to reset to a striking position. a baton is just repeated brutality.
I agree with you, it's widely known that nunchuku as a weapon was borne out of and every day farming implement, so they weren't custom-designed as a weapon although they did a pretty good job. I think the pinnacle of the nunchuku idea is the mediaeval spiked ball and chain and short solid handle. that would probably be a far more equal pick with a club, but again not lot of defence.
