Willie 'Big Bang' Casey to vacate Euro title for crack at WBA World champion

I hope Casey pulls out the upset...he has no fear at all.

I swear to Christ, if Big Bang wins this I will go ****ing buckape for a month. It would be like Ireland winning the World Cup.

 

This would be a huge fight in Ireland.

Casey would have a chance. Rigondeaux wasn't impressive against Cordoba at all. However, Casey is going to be there to hit and Rigondeaux can hit very hard to head and body. Casey also hits hard but Rigondeaux can get on his bicycle and win rounds that way if he needs to.

It's a very tough fight for Casey but he could win the rounds himself if he pushes Rigondeaux back. He looks the type of guy who takes a good punch and we know he hits hard so Rigondeaux might learn quickly that he doesn't want to go toe to toe with Casey. If he moves, he could lose the fight because Casey will be the one pressing the action and the judges in Ireland will be looking for that.

It's a great fight actually. Before the Cordoba fight, I would have said it is a mismatch, but now that the Cordoba fight has exposed some flaws in Rigondeaux, this fight becomes interesting.

 

If this fight comes off it will be great news for boxing in Ireland. I will be heading to Cork to support Casey anyway.

However, as much as i love Caseys attitude and all action style, I only give him around a 20% chance of getting a victory agaianst Rigo. One things for sure though, if he is to lose he will go out on his shield. Also its great to see a fighter taking on everything that comes his way. Many other fighters could learn a thing or two regarding his attitude..

Reagrding Casey Vs Martinez, thast more of a 50-50 fight for me.

Regarding Hyland, I dont really rate him to be honest and never have done. I'd say Martinez would stop him, and I said Casey would stop him before they fought.

 

I think this fight is a good bit of work by Gary Hyde. Rigondeaux disappointed last time out against Cordoba. It was his big opportunity on the undercard of Paquaio fight with a huge American audience. Rigo was supposed to win well against an ex-champ and establish himself as the next big thing, instead he got dropped and went on the backfoot for the rest of the fight. His market value has dropped accordingly.

With this fight against Casey Team Rigo are assuming they will get a limited come forward pressure fighter who holds the European title who their man can counter easily and look good doing it. They expect to get a dramatic stoppage or a one sided beat-
down.

Added to this is the expectation that a world title and Casey's Cinderella man story together with the proximity to Limerick and the Cork connections and the historic boxing legacy of Millstreet could draw a huge paying crowd of up to 7000.

This appears to have enough interest to be covered by ESPN (although perhaps not on the primary channel) and it is hoped to temp sky.

A spectacular victory would restore Rigo's image in what would be a financially rewarding outing.

But a word of warning Mr.Hyde, many a foreign force has come unstuck in the hills around Millstreet.

 

You would swear Casey would be a hundred to 1 shot looking at the comments on here.
Boxing is a 2 horse race and even underdogs win. By being in teh ring he has a chance. Rigondeuax is more skilled no doubt but don't make out like casey has zero chances.

 

There is a huge difference in terms of talent. I'd give Casey a 10% chance of winning (that's being generous too). Rigo is a stylistic nightmare for Casey.

Cordoba didn't expose really any flaws imo, Rigondeaux just stopped working in the last few rounds. I still suspect he may have picked up a hand injury or something the way he just got on his bike when he was dominating

Sasey is going to get hit with a lot of quick, accurate and powerful punches when he comes rushing in and makes himself easy to hit, and Rigondeaux isn't going to be standing in front of him like Hyland so I can't even really see Casey landing that many shots. And you can also be sure that Guillermo hits a lot harder than Paulie Hyland. The gulf in class between Hyland/Casey and Rigondeaux is incredible, you're talking about 2 good Irish fighters who could potentially have a world title shout, vs a Cuban legend who is likely to go down as one of the greatest super bantams of all time

 

Look at the sixth round of Cordoba-Rigo I think it was. Cordoba forced Rigo to fight on the inside and he couldnt hack it at all. I dont think Willie will be able to force the fight on the inside but it certainly looked like a flaw in Rigo that night
