for the first time i felt fear while boxing. i was boxing with a pro fighter during sparring time and hes bigger than me. he also goes hard against everyone in the gym. well i gone up against him and i was full of fear. he killed me. i was so intimidated i couldn't even think straight. i feel like a major puss.

have you ever felt fear while boxing an opponent?

When I first started sparring I felt fear sometimes because like you the guy was bigger, more experienced and always goes hard. Never did it make me feel like a puss when I got in the ring, only when I didnt.

    THIS.

Fear is a part of boxing, and nobody is immune to it. The only thing you have to be ashamed of is if you let it hold you back.

"The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero projects his fear onto his opponent while the coward runs. 'Fear'. It's the same thing, but it's what you do with it that matters". - Cus D'Amato

or "courage is the ability to carry on in spite of fear" or something like that

Well yeah, if you don't have fear you can't have courage either.

fearlessness and courage are two different things. The latter is smart.

  7. Completely natural reaction and learning experience, nothing to get worried about. Learn from it, better it happens while in training than in the ring.

    Completely natural reaction.

I remember I felt the same way when I first sparred. Remember, it's better to feel fear in sparring and eventually learn to overcome it, rather than getting in the ring for your fight and feeling fear then.

Sparring prepares you for pro fights. The more you get your ass kicked, overcome adversity, etc during your sparring sessions, the better results you'll have when it comes time to fight.

I spar with people who are much more experienced than me, I have been for a fair while now..And I still get scared everytime before I do, just got to go with the flow and act like it doesn't bother you. In boxing you're going to get hit hard sometimes, it's going to hurt..You can't help it, but everyone else does too..If you're letting it hold you back then boxing may not be the sport for you

Man my first sparring experince was getting KTFO by a left hook to the body so yeah i was scared shitless for fighting or sparring lol but I still went in and did my thing. I still get nerouvs till this day. I just keep thinking to myself "I have fought and sparred plenty or people including pros and have been alright. **** this guy. We here to win". Then throw some Fat Joe - 300 Brolic on the MP3 and I get my gangsta on : )
