Max Schmeling vs Jerry Quarry

I think Max was smarter than Jerry, and would have used superior ring generalship and patience to implement his counter punching preference. JQ destroyed Bodell and methodically dismantled Spencer in having them come to him. Schmeling would not play that game. Max would lay back, get JQ to commit, then sharp shoot with that right. Quarry would either succumb to frustration and get picked apart, or withdraw into a gun shy shell.

 

Max is better and would win but I think it would be competitive

 

I am curious to know why you think it is a bad style match for Schmeling?

Schmeling was verry adept at picking apart ortodox technicians, and fighters who tried to mix it up with him. Quarry might just end up being crucified on two counts stylisticaly.

 

It is a well matched bout .. ovr 10 I like Quarry by decision but over 15 I like Max .. I feel his sharp punching would take over ..

 

I can't see how anyone thinking of the Quarry that fought Spencer could be anything remotely comfortable for Schmeling, to show the flipside of that coin. To read your description, it's a wonder Schmeling ever lost a fight.

I mean no disrespect by that, just trying to impart that I think Quarry is being given real short shrift here.

 

Schmeling is just a better class of fighter than Quarry. Quarry was good though but a tad overrated, like Young, Shavers and so on.

 

Certainly one way to look at it, and I agree Schmeling was a better fighter overall. Not much argument to give otherwise on that. I just think Quarry has the tools and most importantly the toughness to make this a miserable night for Max.

 

Schmeling UD or TKO.

Wrong style match-up for Quarry. If you came at Quarry, he could give you all kinds of trouble, but a solid technical boxer of Schmeling's calibre would be able to handle him. That said, given that Quarry is Quarry, it would be a tough fight for Max.

 

Oh, Quarry would be game and would be competative, I don´t think anyone thinks otherwise but in the end it would not be enough.

 

Agreed, and Schmeling by TKO in my opinion....

 

Pills. My bad. My other points stand. And there's no way Quarry was a harder puncher than Schmeling. I did a work up on Schmeling's best feats as a puncher and he has some very impressive stoppages. One of the most underrated HW punchers.

 

This would be a great match up. I would go with Schmeling as he was the smarter fighter by a mile.
