Calzaghe may not. Have been hurt in those two knockdowns (it's disputable), but I would bet on Spinks doing something similar early, but he actually finishes; something Roy and Bernard didn't have the fire in their bellies for. Spinks would capitalize on a hint of having Joe in trouble and convince him to stay sitting down.
Mike Spinks gets an easy win.Joe is a good fighter but not good enough to beat a prime Spinks at light heavy.Probably be UD though not KO.
The thinking would be that the 2 times that Joe fought at 175,he was dropped by a shot Jones right forearm smash and a Hopkins right. In other words,he was susceptible to right hands. The Michael Spinks right hand was called the Spinks Jinx for a reason. And for a big guy,he was very quick.I like Spinks in this one, too.
With Mike fighting on same day weigh in wouldn't their actual sizes be closer than people are thinking? Spinks would win and it would be messy at the end.
yes their weigths would be the same..i suspect Calzaghe weighted at least 175 for all his supermiddle weight fights..and likely weighted on 180 for his two light heavyweight fights.
at 175 spinks wins easy. Joe is not a natural light heavy. drag him down to 168 and i think calzaghe would have the edge
Spinks would win this before the halfway point. An ATG Light Heavy at his peak against a slipping 168lber only fighting for his bank balance threatens to be quite one sided.
There's probably not a big difference in their actual weight. Spinks made 175 during same day weigh-ins. Calzaghe often talked about his problems making 168 under the new weigh-in rules, so I think it's safe to say that even if there were an 168 lb. division in the late 70s/early 80s, Calzaghe would probably be fighting at 175 if he were around then. Because of this, we can probably just match up Calzaghe at 168 against the Spinks of 175, as it's a better matchup than taking the aging Calzaghe of 2008. Spinks should win. He's the superior fighter.
Calzaghe was dropped by an old RJJ and Hops at Light Heavyweight. He was also dropped by Kabary Salem, Calzaghe doesn't stand a ****en chance against a prime Spinks power. Spinks KO5. For the record a prime Jones KO's Calzaghe as well. :hi::good
