he wasnt a bum and yes he can come back, he just couldnt work out the style of a very tall fighter with a long long jab, it happens...

from watching the fight he didnt seen in very good shape to me he couldnt sustain any attacks and his normal high work rate wasnt there dont know how training had gone but he looked way short of his normal ability i think if he can get over blowing such a big chance mentally he can defo come back hes still young and talented just didnt seem interested on sat night i think he thought it was gunna be a easy night and maybe didnt prepare proparly thats how it looked to me

He looked horrible, there was no head/foot movement at all. He just backed up all night eating jab.

Appleby was very poor, but i wouldn't say his opponent was a bum. He had a decent chin, good work rate and good jab. Seemed that Appleby was looking past him after hearing of a match up against Burns. He took him lightly, no doubt about it, and he paid the price.

A change of trainer might be needed for him to get his confidence back and work his way back up.

Never rated him much anyway, to be honest.

Well it seems like he was told beforehand that if he won he'd fight Burns, so really if he did look past Layrea that's unforgivable really and please no one give it the ''he's a young lad bollocks'' because he's not a kid.

    This ^^^^^
Not checking out any footage was a bad mistake. He was expecting an easy nights work and seemed shocked by the long jab in the first. When he tried to step it up in the 2nd he was unable to sustain it. This guy was no bum:roll: but definatley beatable had he closed down the space and got his shots off up close and broke him down with body shots. As you say he looked under prepared to me. Will look at this fight and learn from it.:good

he needs to get a new trainer. never rated Terry McCormack as a coach. his advice in the corner saturday was nothing less than pathetic. if he wants to go forward ditch McCormack asap

I think he needs someone like Joe Gallagher - guys that will help him focus on using the body-attack, keeping the guard up and stepping around the jab. Nelson would do a good job, I'm sure, but I'd prefer Appleby to get out of Scotland.

Needs better sparring and less distractions from what I've been told.

I don't think he could go to Gallagher because of the Hatton deal.
