Cheers lads! Yea Blue you and widdy are there as my guests that night. Rossd-yea we have some good young lads including my cousin Chris O Brien who is progressing nicley as a welterweight he is 5-0. But keep your eye out for Yassine El Macchi!!! The next character of British Boxing. If you want to see him in action he has plenty of fights on You tube.
Top boxer, hope he hangs around like, wont be forgotten either way though. Does anyone know when this "Gomez" film is coming out??
kevin you conducted yourself in a fantastic manner,it is obvious you are an intelligent man and i personally wish you all the very best in the future.
Cheers billy you too mate! I'll be in touch I'd love to bring some lads up for sparing sometime. Moorser yep from Dublin pal, lived in blackrock when I was younger. All my dads side from Dublin all my mums side from Mayo!
I cannot wait for El Macchi to get a decent run of fights. Hopefully he will get a push by a promoter. Plenty of good fights at welter and light middle if that is where he keeps fighting.
What a shame....Gomez has been my favourite domestic fighter for years, and will be remembered with the likes of Wayne Alexander as a truly fearsome domestic banger :good
It is a shame Mike's not carrying on it was meeting Mike at Droylsden Football Club at a the Droylsden Manchester City Supporters Club branch fundraiser that made me take up boxing I still have the pics of me with him with his belt over my shoulder he was one of the best down to earth blokes you could meet. I remember watching his next fight on sky and it showing him in the dressing room before the fight headbutting the lockers through he was a true warrior. Last time I saw Mike was the day after the Johansson fight and he was steaming at the MCFC game v Brum he didn't go in the ground stayed in the pub with a few of us that didn't have tickets and had a beer top top guy
Cheers Kevin and Jeff, good to hear some inside info from you and wish Mike all the best for the future, he epitomised the 'never say die' spirit and will always have a place in the heart of many boxing fans. Ok - this next bit is a bit cheeky but if you don't ask you don't get. I have a photo of Mike that I've had since the Arthur fight up here at Meadowbank, I appreciate he's probably wanting time out from all things boxing, but do you reckon he might sign it for me? It's been stored away with some other boxing mementos but I'd like to get it up on a wall, any chance?
great post...and great to see you posting on here kevin..we were all rooting for mike, but he didnt let anyone down...he has been a true warrior of british boxing, he'll be spoke about in boxing circles in 30 years time... who else is in your gym kevin ?
Jeff - Tried to send you a pm but can't as I'm new member and dont have enough posts. My email address is This content is protected Thanks again.
Hya keV, I was at this press conference at the Thistle hotel and Gomez was totally out of order, you got to admit he overdone it and practically had his face in Rickys. Big Morrison was only looking out fir Ricky. I know tensions run high and glad it was all forgotten about after the show. Wot a night!.
