That's the thing. With his age, inactivity, and losing his last two fights he should be looked upon as a stepping stone for up&coming fighters, but I don't think the handlers of those fighters want to risk using Winky as a stepping stone.
I loved Winky as a fighter, always thought he had phenominal talent, but he seemed to think too much of himself and this shroud that nobody would fight him was only before Mosely - like said he priced himself out too much. Which is a shame because he would of beat Margo and Oscar quite handily I believe.
Yeah, it wouldn't make sense from Martinez's point of view to fight someone like Wink. Wink might be old, but I bet he still has a few tricks up his sleeves, which is not worth taking the risk to find out imo, irrespective of his age he's still a skilled fighter.
If he has tricks left, I don't want to see and find out. He was a pretty boring fighter even in his prime.
it would be hard to get the sources but if you really want i can search around. also dont forget how he turned down an immediate rematch with jermain taylor. and damn if you think he won against bhop you gotta get your head checked it wasn't even close.
FYI.... Harold scored it a draw. I've found many fans online who also thought Winky won. Perhaps you watched the fight with the same bitter anti-Winky attitude that you've expressed in this thread, and that may have influenced your scoring. Don't expect me to defend Winky as if he's my favorite fighter, or as if his career was damaged by the media/politics. I just think he was one of the best p4p fighters of this era and, regardless of the reason, it's too bad he never enjoyed the success that other fighters have. Maybe he did f%ck his own career. If he did then that's too bad because he was a talented fighter who I think could have dominated many more top guys than he did.
harold is an idiot that fight was 8-4 hopkins (i think) winky was doing ok till he got cut, he started crying when he got cut and started complaining to the ref and even almost went down (or he did i think?), ater that cut he basically gave up. and there is no reason to feel sorry for him, he's made more money than you and me combined and lives a comfortable life in vegas.
You think Hopkins won? Great. I don't. End of. You can do a round by round analysis of the fight in here if you want but it wont change my opinion. If I simply felt sorry for everybody who has not made millions then I feel sorry for the vast majority of the worlds population. I wish he had done better because, as a FAN (not his accountant), there were a number of fights that I would have liked to see him in that he wasn't.
Winky really screwed himself a lot between 2006 and 2008, and that's when he sort of fell off the map. He turned down an immediate rematch with Jermain Taylor, turned down multiple deals against Pavlik, and turned down a fight with Abraham.
