Please don't act like you don't run into different fans and can't tell the hardcores from the casual or diehard ignorant fan. That goes for any sport. The Hardcore fans know about more participants than the casual or diehard ignorant fan. I know real quick when I'm speaking to someone on any sport if thier knowledge is up to par. It's not hard and I get suprised by alot of people, who pop up at our fight parties talking like boxing is thier main thing and then come out thier mouth with some unknowlegdable stupid mess like "I didn't know mosley lost to Cotto" LOL. Even though hardcore fans are more knowledgable, oppinions vary just like anything else. I'm a Hardcore NFL fan and I dam sure feel the same for every big fight as I do for superbowl sunday. when I say Diehard ignorant fan I mean the guys who know thier favorite team/fighter really well and not much else besides the people/teams near them (division/weightclass). These guys will argue with you all day while acknowledging that they don't know the competition well.
Been watching boxing for about 35 years. Hard core fan for 30 years. Leonard-Hearns in 81 was the fight that really hooked me, but I was following the sport closely for about a year before that.
About 10 years, I'm 24. I started boxing when I was 12 then took it to another level when I was 15 with the fandom. My "uncle" (by way of marriage), Daniel Zaragoza, is who really sparked my interest at that time.
my family have always been into basketball, football and being from the Bronx you know the Yankees, but I have never liked/loved another sport like boxing. Then i started to actually fight and my relationship with boxing deepened greatly. I seriously think about boxing 24/7. Shadow box at all times lol. And watch at least one fight per day new or old. Every fight on HBo or Showtime believe me I'm watching...if I'm not watching it live I have my DVR record it. ITS NOT A GAME!!!
Not very long, I'd say about 9 years now, maybe a little less. The first few years were spent focused more on 'fav fighters', slowly I became more and more of a fan of the entire sport.
I'm 29 years old. In 2003, when I was 22, I use to work at a place where there were a lot of boxing fans and that is when I first became interested in the sport. I instantly became a fan after watching the second De La Hoya vs. Mosley fight in 2003. From then, I started studying the fighters in all the divisions, learning about the sports history, and later catching fights on Youtube and joining boxing websites. I even started going to see some live fights around where I live, NJ, and also in Nicaragua, since I travel there a lot. Some of the fighters I have seen fight live include Humberto Soto, Zab Judah, Miguel Cotto, Chavez Jr., and Roman Gonzaelz.
Thats whats up man. Keep it up. I haven't seen a big fight live yet. I go to all the local shows and the amateur events here, but thats it. :|
I've been watching boxing since the 1960's In the 1970's my uncle and dad build a small boxing gym in the apt. building basement. did a lot of sparring with my cousins as a teenager. 2 of them did pretty good in the golden gloves. We never missed any TV FIGHTS . and I had every boxing mag that came out.
Started watching in the late eighties -only big fights then(mostly Tyson), grew to a wider selection in the early ninties, and after 2000 forget about it. cant stop myself from watching (all time greats, elites, young propects). Did it mostly to talk **** with my friends over fights, and now to following young guys carrers. Watching them make it so to speak. My age is 35.
I've liked boxing my whole life.(I'm 29) But the last 2 years, 2009-2010 I finally found where to get quality boxing dvrs and man, I've built up a whole library in the last 2 years. I'm a hard core fan now and collect The Ring magazines. That's all I've done this year is build my boxing library and watch fights pretty much everyday. I'm hooked for life!
oh wow, that's awesome man, really cool. things like these are what I missed out on by not having my dad around.
