I've been following this sport for 35 years. Believe me, I know something about boxing. And punch resistance is important in this sport.

 

Meh...losses happen. Mundine has looked vulnerable throughout most if his career. He's still had a good career and only one win (the rematch) to get back to where he was. On top of the domestic heap here while calling out all the big names.

 

mundine was leaning and lowered to his right at the time he took a shot to the temple, the reason for that is and this is only my opinion is that wood hurt him to the body with his right in a brief exchange seconds before the ko punch. which was a solid left to the chin.

was a scrappy fight all in all though. not very entertainig other than the ko.

 

I'm just waiting for the day when Oliver McCall finally gets knocked down and stopped, and Zakman bawls "I SAID he was a knockout waiting to happen all these years! I was right!"

I don't care much for Green, he isn't much better than Mundine with his antics, but you really lose all credibility with a post that stupid. Green unloaded a simple one-two and caught Jones with a legal punch to the side of the head, which was only borderline because Jones adjusted his position slightly after the jab landed. Not to say he isn't a dirty fighter, but that punch was fine, go watch a Sam Peter if you want to see a rabbit punch, or any fight from the first half of the last century.

Pulling your punches when an opponent is bent over at the waste is one thing, not throwing a punch altogether in case your opponent moves in such a way that the side/back of their head is vulnerable takes stupid to the next level.

@IB, you should watch the whole fight for a laugh if you haven't already, the ropes were ****ing absurd.

 

The clubbing right to the back/side of the head is Greens favourite punch. It wasn't a 1-2, it was a 1 - try to punch the other guys brain stem. Green is dirty as ****, yes Jones turned his head abit but if Green was throwing a normal straight right there would have been no problem.

Mundine has a glass temple

 

Mundine surprisingly was candid today with the media. After the Ottke loss he practically went into hiding and didn't say a word in public for months. He seems to have taken the loss well. Rather too well, for him. He was saying stuff like fighter's get more respect and are seen as greater after coming back from adversity. Sounds ludicrous, but I can't help thinking Mundine might've thrown the fight in order to ensure a rematch. He'd get respect beating a guy who beat him, he would've got none for winning last night, and he ensures another PPV fight in Australia against a domestic fighter.

 

Well obviously it was the left hook which dropped him, but there was no doubt it was set up from the punch behind the head. I'm not saying Wood threw a rabbit punch intentionally, but it landed that way.

Look, things happen in the heat of the moment, punches go wayward especially during flurries. I know everyone hates Mundine, but you are really clutching at straws if you're trying to bend the events to fit into a version which makes Mundine appear as bad as possible. Next people will be telling us Wood employed a slick strategy and outboxed Mundine in the rounds preceding the KO.

Wood took an opportunity at an opening, Mundine made a critical error, case closed. We'll have the rematch.

I wouldn't expect mainstream media to even consider that rabbit punch as most of the journo's probably consider Mundine a credible (former) world champion. Frankly I'd expect more insight from boxing fans posting on a boxing site.
