I did see Rodrigo 'Rocky' Valdez take a pounding by Bennie Briscoe, then end it with one 'bomb-of-a-right hand'. If this fight goes 15, Marvin would have a little trouble here. Rodrigo (in his earlier days) hit a lot harder than Vito Antuofermo.
Tha nationally televised fight from Monte Carlo in 1974. Bennie was pounding Rodrigo around the ring pretty good in the 7th Round, until Valdez dropped Briscoe with one of the hardest right hands ever. Amazingly, Briscoe got up in about 10 seconds. I thought he was dead!
He may've been winning the round on activity (as Valdez had a tendancy to step off the gas at times), but he certainly wasn't beating him around the ring. Most of the time Valdez was playing the counter-punching role, slipping/rolling Briscoe's clubbing hooks on the ropes to open up opportunities to place his much more compact shots. He also blocked body blows very well with his elbows and arms. He was content to fight that way, and he worked very well doing it, I thought.
El Bujia, Watch that round again on You Tube. Keith Jackson of ABC was pretty well convinced that Bennie was turning it on, as Bennie backed Valdez up and was whacking him pretty good, until the last 20 seconds when he countered back, and then caught Bennie with the perfect right hand.
