Adamek made Maddalone look real slow for the entire fight. I didn't get the numbers, but from my view, it looked like at least 4 to 1 in shots traded. Adamek threw a nice 3 punch combo ending in a short left hook in the 5th to send Maddalone to the canvas for an 8 count, then finished him in the next 20 or so seconds when Maddalone's corner apparently threw in the towel to end the fight. Make that TKO. The ref didn't need to count.
Just a bit of nitpicking: Adamek was outlanding him far more than 4-1. Maddalone's corner allowed him to take about a full minute's worth of punishment after the KD before they intervened - not 20 seconds.
I would have loved to have seen Adamek fight BHop while he was at cruiser... But BHop wanted slave wages, even tho Adamek held the title... F*ck BHop...
I think after the disastrous stint with DKP, Adamek made some very clever yet bold moves with Main Events. After losing to Dawson, he moves up to CW and completly reinvents himself to become one of the hottest fighers in a meagerly publicized division. When Bhop wanted to put Adamek under a blatantly cheap contract (something that even ESPN picked up on) and when Showtime/HBO didn't want to put some money on the table for Adamek - Cunningham 2, Adamek again turns the tables and moves up to HW. At HW, after beating Arreola, when a title fight did not present itself either against Klit bros or Haye, Adamek just stays impressively busy (5 fights in 13 fricken months) and makes good cash fighting in Jersey, while waiting for his turn. IMO, in terms of strategic planning, Main Events have done an outstanding job with Adamek.
I am wondering if Adamek is going to keep milking his fans for $$$. maddalone was a no hoper in this fight. No disrespect to maddalone he is a decent fighter but he isnt world elite class. Adamek has turned down big fights with big names. I hope he doesnt milk 2nd and 3rd tier opponents like Haye does.
WHO? The only name that comes to my mind is Solis. At this point, Solis was too high risk, too low reward type fighter for Adamek. The fight with Dimitrenko was only rumour and its not clear whether Dimi would want any part of Adamek. The truth is that by beating someone in the top 5 (Arreola), Adamek has done more than at least 95% of the recent title challengers who tend to beat exclusively on bums waiting for a title shot or rely on their old reputations. The truth is Adamek has already earned his title shot and can keep playing it safe until he gets the title fight. At the very least, he's extremely busy (can you name one top fighter today that is busier than Adamek?) . Make no mistake about it, Adamek wants to fight for a title against anyone right now.
Adamek isn't "milking" fans, he is providing a valuable service by cleaning out the HW division... isn't it just a wee bit premature to say that he's ducking people... for Christ's sake, let the boy get his stroll on before you expect him to be lickin' the Klits. just my opinion
Err...he hasn't exactly done any "cleaning out" of the division since Arreola. Grant and Maddalone are microscopic scum, invisible to the naked eye in the big picture, and the heavyweight division does not require any cleaning out of their type. Golota made dollars and sense. Fair dos. It was predictably one sided, but fair dos for debut. Estrada was a legitimate prospect/contender. That was an acceptable sophomore effort. Arreola was the right fight to take at that time, and solidified him as a serious heavyweight. You could argue he deserved a slightly less tough night's work next time out after picking up a good win there. Grant and Maddalone? Giant steps backward.
You mean that Adamek should clean out the whole division while Haye is cleaning out the British compartment?
I'm not saying he should be doing anything. That post was in response to someone claiming "he is providing a valuable service by cleaning out the HW division" - which stopped being true about seven months ago. He's basically just keeping active, which is fine. Dispensing with the likes of Grant and Maddalone shouldn't really be seen as providing a valuable service, however.
Yes that what he is doing ... preserving his status, earning money and waiting actively for his shot. Beating up Arreola was something like officially earning shot at the title. I may see one more name from top 10 contender list for a real mandatory spot, but seriously there is no one from top 10 who is currently more accomplished than Adamek at HW. Maybe if Solis beat Austin or Sosnowski beat Dimitrenko they will be on pair with Adamek.
Unlike Grant, Maddalone did exactly what they expected of him. He never really had much of a chance, he's always been a march-forward slugger ESPN fights type and after seeing an ancient Holyfield absolutely batter the crap out of him in 3 you knew what his role was in the division. Congrats to Adamek, a good performance by the sounds of things and one he needed. It won't be even an iota of value for a fight against the Klitschkos or Haye, vastly different fighters, but a win is a win.
considering Wlad has already cleaned out the top 20 he isnt providing any service. In response top who Adamek didnt fight he turned down offers with both klits and bhop that i know of. Maddalone isnt on any of their levels.
