I know Macklin's had some changes in his career, however he needs another and he needs it FAST. He's become very very poor under Gallagher and it's embarassing. All talk of Macklin/Barker is now back at Macklin. After Darren's lacklustre performance, critics were saying it was an easy one for Matthew. After tonight, the question from around me in the arena was, 'How can Barker fail to beat him' ???? He needs to move away from Gallagher and his poor training and lack of technical tuition. A John Murray, Macklin is not !!!

Can't blame the trainer. Macklin looked **** hot in his first few fights with Gallagher, it's just about levels.

Doesn't he go to the Wild Card during training to be helped by Roach?

He looked sensational against Elcock and the finn though- maybe he was ignoring Gallagher then?

He ain't going to world level with Jesus in the corner performing miracles. People got a bit carried away with a win over Asikainen who was never world class and had suspect durability. Asikainen has been stopped numerous times, it was a devastating victory no doubt but it didn't automatically make him world class.

Frankly his last few performances have been mediocre.

I'm not purely blaming Gallagher however it's easy to get carried away against poor oposition. When up against a decent operator, he needs a decent cornerman to help with a 'Plan B' so to speak. Joe G is not thet man IMHO

    macklin aint shite
but as the old saying goes...you cant polish a turd.

maybe he's reached his level, no shame in that, but we cant know for sure until he has that higher level test...

(although on mythbuster they actually did polish a turd, so it can be done)

Kinda makes Zbik look like some monsterous puncher considering he knocked Varon out in 4..! I think its about levels and im not just cuting Macklin up here for the sake of it but i don't think he is world class. I thought he looked clueless up close at times, just covered up and took punches, if he wasn't gonna work in there he should of got out of range. Was the sitting on the ropes to draw Varon on to him something he meant to do or was he just wrecked, the latter i think. Way to easily hit by hard jabs and straight rights. He should go after Sylvester because he could actually win that but it's looking like Geale is gonna get his shot at Sylvester. Macklin would be soundly beaten by Martinez, Sturm, Pirog and Golovkin. Levels above him in my opinion.

I think Roach has pushed him to one side he took a bashing sparring at the Wildcard which showed up many faults.

Gallagher is a very good trainer, always gives constructive, technical advice between rounds, unlike Farnell who was embarrassing in the Bellew fight!!!

He needs to spend as much time as possible watching videos of Amir Khan and learn the art that way, Training and sparring will get him nowhere.

Macklin is a good fighter but he gets caught between styles, he can't decide whether he's a boxer or a brawler. It's the same problem Duddy has, he was a handy boxer as an amateur but turned into a face first brawler in the pros. I think he may also overestimate his own power after knocking out Elcock and Asikainnen so quicky, it seems like if he can't get to his man early he has no plan b.

Saying all that, he'd still beat the chinny Barker. :hey
