Maidana was putting a world of hurt on Khan, and as the 8th came along he just ran out of gas and lost steam and speed on his punches and ended up barely making it to his corner at the end of the round. It was shocking, almost like the Wlad 'poisoning' incident. He was suddenly completely exhausted. No doubt that he was at no more than 50% during that 10th round and onwards, otherwise he would have easily taken care of business. Strange.
Maidana conditioning didn't look too great against Corley either. That plus the body shot did it. A better tank and he would have finished Khan. Maybe he should hire Ariza for some conditioning training.
body shots early on. every boxing technician will tell you they continue to slow a man down later into the fight.
For those that have never boxed and it's pretty obvious a lot of you haven't. Maidana took a clean body shot in the first round. I can tell you from experience that the same shot weared him down through the rest of the fight. Body shots in particular are brutal once you go further into the fight. Don't believe me have someone imitate the punch and let me know if you can run 30 mins later.
Body shots (including one to the liver in which 95% of fighters never make the count of 10 from), head shots, going forward, throwing haymakers, I think all of this contributed to Maidana being tired by the 8th round.
