Not talking about popularity, or revenue streams, or endorsement. Simply, who is/was the more dominant athlete in their sport? I think GSP, to be honest, but by a very slim margin. In fact, GSP is to MMA what Jordan was to basketball, Joe Montana to Football, etc. If anyone can think of an athlete more dominant at their sport than present day GSP, please post. Might be interesting.
Comparing a team sport to an individual sport is dumb but if youre gonna shove a square block through the round hole.... Gretzky.. by far. He had 2857 points in his career. The next closest players are 1000 points behind that. He has more assists than anyone else has points. And he has more goals than anyone else too. Its not even a contest really.
i dunno, i just thought it was a better issue for debate than which athlete is more famous. At least with this question, GSP has some sort of a shot. And i think i might be a little bit on the proverbial bandwagon at the moment! lol
For dominance in any sport, the question should be can anyone beat 'The Power' This content is protected
I never really watch hockey but last time i check gretzky is being called the greatest hockey player and he came out in commercial with other greats jordan and elway. So gretzky:good
Let's see, one's called "The great one" and the other is called "GSP"..I think I'll go with the great one.
It's not close... The Great One dominated the sport so bad.... Like a poster said, only with his assists he has more points than everyones. + the facts he has the more goals in the history lol..... Only Mario Lemieux had more talent, but more injury prone.
True, Ive always felt Mario was unstoppable and was more of a force. But the truth is, in Canada its always been Bobby Orr as the greatest one for the hardcore fans.
There's some debate as to whether or not GSP is even currently the p4p number one, to suggest that he is dominating the sport to the degree Gretzky dominated hockey is absurd.
wow, dint quite expect the responses ive gotten. granted, not a very hot thread in this forum, but after all the debate and sustained criticism achieved with the popularity thread, id have thought i wouldnt be the ONLY one supporting GSP. My reasons for thinking this are more in depth however than just the name (popularity is creeping in) Great One. GSP, from what Ive seen over the last couple of years, peaking with his recent destruction of Koscheck, has NO weaknesses. His striking, for UFC, is lethal, accurate, and unmatched. His ground game has improved to the point that, I believe Rogan said it, has made him one of, if not THE premier wrestler in the UFC. I'm guessing (and I hope Im right), his submissions are also top notch. He does it all, and dominates in every facet of the game. Wayne Gretzky is absolutely my favorite hockey player of all time. I don't believe there has been nor will there ever be a better player than Number 99! He could score, pass, set up plays, and generally control every aspect of the game with ease. He has every record that means anything at all..............bodycheck him and hes done. As simple as that. He could not take a hit and he couldnt hit himself. He needed enforcers to protect him. This is why Im saying GSP is more dominant. He covers every aspect of the game. Gretzky did not.
Gretzky had more talent in his foreskin that Lemieux had in his entire body! Mario was a floater that would take off when he had the puck. Mario was a great scorer, but NOT a great player.
