Who'd win: Jake Shields vs Demian Maia at a catchweight between 170 and 185?

Shields looked weight-drained to hell in his last fight at 170.

I've heard people on Sherdog saying Maia is a small middleweight, and that he could maybe make 170 at some point.

    What do you guys think,

take weight out of the equation, say both men came in at a comfortable weight somewhere between 170 and 185,

who would win this match? :bbb

I'd fancy Maia too. Would love to see this fight go to the ground though.

    GSP would keep it standing.

Maia probably subs him, but Shields could win.

If Shields can avoid getting subbed, he could win by keeping top position most of the time, or stopping the takedowns and turning it into a kickboxing match, although Shields standup is pretty awful.

Maia will tap him. Sheilds has great grappling, but that wont finish the fight - Maia will.

everyone who has tried this against him has been beaten convincingly, including probably one of the best in the business in sonnen.

shields striking is not as bad as maia's.

actually I dont think shields striking is as bad as most people think it is.

I don't think Maia's is completely terrible either though, he has decent high kicks at least.

Well yes, I said Maia would probably tap him, but you can't compare Sonnen's sub defense with Shields.
