LINEAR...I can't even wrap my head around a 5'6 former linear flyweight champion even having the potential to be a LINEAR middleweight champion. It's mind-boggling.

Might watch their bout again tonight, and watch Manny's carrer again from the start on Friday (getting wisdom teeth pulled) . Wish I had mates that were into boxing to enjoy all this with.

He can pick up that middleweight title pretty easy if he were to fight felix sturm.

 

No. It wouldn´t be the mw title, it would just be a belt, that´s not what we are talking about. Then, Sturm is a big mw, he won´t make no catchweight fight with Pac. If this fight happens it´s at 160 and Sturm will weight around 168-170 at fightnight. And given the quality of his opponent he will fight at his best, he always fights at the level of his opponent, Pac ain´t peating him. Sturm is too good defensivly, too big and his jab is too fast. Margo landed plenty of jabs on Pac, Sturm will land even more and faster ones and harder ones.

 

Gotta give The Pacman his props..Right now,IMHO,he is a lock Top30 ATG...if he beats Mayweather,Top 20 for sure..

Great as he is Manny..his resume' cannot compete with the likes of Duran,SRR,Ali etc regardless of wht he does in the next few years..Those guys accomplished great things against great fighters..manny has done his bit in his era..

Used to hate on this little man...ever since he blitzed my homeboy Ledwaba and went on to clock my main man Marco Antonio Barrera...over the years I've come to admire Manny...Say what you wnat about the man,he's earned his laurels in the ring..emphatically.

He'll always have problems agains slick boxers that can fight..ala JMM,Morales,Mayweather..His physical abilities,and his heart though...will make sure that no-one can bet against the Pac-man.

We are witnessing history in the making here.Boxing is at a much better place because of fighters like Manny,Mosley etc..Guys who dare themselves against all odds.

I hope he's fighting clean Manny..no EPD etc..cause if he is...his place in the history will be complete.

I hope Floyd is watching this unfold.Manny has stolen his limelight.His credibilty is going to go down the toilet at this rate...I still think Floyd can beat Manny..Regardless of we feel about him,Mayweather is no joke..He can box circles around anyone on his day.But until the day he steps up,manny is king.

Pacquiao to me is more like Ali than say Greb or Robinson. A legendary boxer who no doubt is among some of the best boxers ever to live, but he is much more of an icon rather than a great fighter.

 

Pacquiao took viscious, heavy shots there in the eighth, especially to the body, a Margarito specialty. Pacquiao answered right back. I do rank this achievement, this win, in this fashion, above his victory over Cotto.

 

These are pretty much my thoughts exactly, and have been from the moment the fight was signed.

Pac is already a proven ATG, but this fight was just a set-up to give him another "title," and doesn't really bring anything substantially new to his legacy IMO. Margo was already ruined and exposed (in more ways than one) by Mosley, and hasn't been relevant since then. I've defended Pac other times before when others tried to accuse him of "picking on shot fighters," but this is one instance where I felt that criticism was valid.

 

Yeah, Margarito was just another opponent, a big "tough" opponent, but not a massively significant win, and the idea that the "title" holds any sort of legitimacy is a joke.
I mean, how can the WBC sanction a fight for the VACANT 154 pound title, and the fight is made at 150, featuring one guy who's never gone above welter and shows up at 144 ? Vacancy fights are supposedly to clear up the two best available fighters in the division.

Pacquiao is great, but back in the day great fighters were fighting Margarito type fighters as tune-ups for title shots, and fighting almost monthly, sometimes fortnightly.

Pacquiao is great though.

 

I still find it amazing that big Welters like Clottey and Margo consider it an accomplishment to go 12 rounds with Pac.

 

BUMP .... from the days where I felt Pacquiao was being a little bit overrated.
I do feel he's become somewhat underrated now though. Not sure if it was the LKO6 Marquez or the utterly anti-climactic fight of the century.
Anyone changed their opinion of him ?

I still think he's great, and probably pound-for-pound the greatest of his era.
