I was really impressed with the Khan interview. Great to see how much he's matured over the last few years. He was completely honest in his assessment of the fight, saying that he felt in control at all times but when he watched it back he can completely understand why people felt the fight was a lot closer.
I thought DeGale just oozed class, actually. Indeed, sometimes he can get a bit sloppy and amateurish, but the guy has 9 professional fights. We can't stress enough how impressive it is for a fighter to perform like that against a seasoned veteran in Smith with only 9 fights behind his belt. The only fighter at 168lbs faster than DeGale is Dirrell, nobody else need apply. I thought Jim McDonnell made a great point about DeGale's defense too. Absolutely, he has his hands down and he stands in the pocket a lot of the time, but very rarely does he seem to get hit properly. He does subtle movement inside that either makes the opponent miss completely, or he limits the damage by rolling or blocking with his elbows and shoulders. Every fighter has shortcomings, but DeGale is about as good a fighter as you could hope for 9 fights. Very impressive. Groves would take a beating, he's not on DeGale's level.
The only possible reason anyone could be picking Groves over DeGale at this point is because they have agenda, and don't want to see the cocky, precocious talent succeed. ...Groves gets hammered by DeGale...everybody knows it but Groves and his managers.
Just watched the interview, and for once, I was actually interested in what Amir was saying. Those punches he took the head seem to have enhanced his ability to put coherent sentences together! Good to see him maturing.
great interview with khan, looked battered right after the fight, now there's barely a mark on him?? Thought degale was class. Still find it hard to believe he's had only 9 pro fights. Beating seasoned pro in such an easy, cool and calm fashion like it was nothing was hugely impressive. What do you guys think about what his trainer said - "guys like degale only come round every 20 years" ? Could he be that special?
Khan was most likely wearing make-up. I think Jim might be on point with his comments about DeGale, on the British scene, I think guys like DeGale really do come along every 20 years.
I ****ing hope he's right, but i'm positive degale will go really far regardless. It was the little things that impressed me the most, like blocking shots up close and then getting a sneaky shot on smith's chin. That's the sort of thing that you expect from guys like mayweather, real genuine skills. The future's bright........
Best interview I've seen khan give, he was humble, admitted his mistakes and gave credit to maidana. Maidana did a good job at cutting off the ring and caught khan with shots. Khan needs to work with roach to tighten his defence and improve his inward game. I hope he also improves discipline for sticking to gameplan. This interview Is encouraging - I like Khan's personality.
