Monzon was a better middleweight, Hopkins has done some impressive things at 175 and his experience is now coming into play...at 160 Monzon will always be the better man but it would be a competitive decision between the 2 men...Monzon by UD or late RSC

1997-2001 when he was both the executioner and tactical master

But even going back to the Mercado fights he looked to be a great fighter, albeit 1 who took more chances leaving more openings

There's not much doubt about Jones being the better boxer. There were a few of Monzon's opponents that were better boxers yet not a single one managed to beat him. Maybe that'd be because Monzon was the better fighter?

    Doesn't make sense.

How can Hopkins be lower than Monzon at 160, yet higher pound-for-pound, when he never fought lower than middleweight ?

Because of his fighters higher than middleweight?

No fighter should be rated at any weight for what they achieved at a higher weight.
    It makes no sense.

Of course, it we're talking only 2, 3, 4 pounds above championship weight limit it's not an issue.

But he wasn't miles greater at light-heavy than he was at middle, so how does he suddenly become better pound-for-pound at a higher weight ?

If his 160 is inferior to Monzon's 160, how is he pound-for-pound greater ?

Because it adds to his overall legacy. He did great work at 160, although not as great as Monzon, but he added to it by moving up two weightclasses and proving he can hang in and beat those guys. Something Monzon never did. Monzon never tried the deeper waters above his weight. Hopkins did. And he did it when over 40 years old.

It adds to his overall legacy, sure.
But I don't think it makes him greater pound-for-pound.

    Not really.
He lost his title at middleweight, failed in an attempt to regain it, and his achievements at light-heavy won't even make a minor ripple in the all-time list.

Hopkins is great though, and scores greatness points for longevity.

If for example we discount Hopkins win over Pavlik, from his Middleweight credentials as it was fought above Middleweight.

How do you guys see Zarate vs Zamora. Surely this has to be considered, for all intents and purposes, as a reflection onto their Bantamweight rankings?
