I agree, but I think the Shane that fought Mayweather isn't any worse than the Shane who might fight Pacquiao. It just *appeared* as though Shane was better than he was in the lead up to the Mayweather fight.

In truth, Margarito without the wraps was either not a threat, was too weight drained for 147 by then, or Shane just had a favorable stylistic matchup in Margarito (probably some combination of all of the above). Taking a longer view of Shane, he's been unimpressive for several years. I didn't expect that to change against Floyd, and I don't expect that to change now.

But for people to give credit to Mayweather for fighting Mosley and not to give Pac credit is silly. Either you give both of them credit, or neither. It's the same Mosley.

Look how much Mosley's stock has fallen from going into the Mayweather fight compared to going into this one and try and tell me that Pacquiao should get the same amount of credit if he beats him?

Mosley had plenty of hype around him after he was the only man to knock out Margarito, Roach said himself he wouldn't put Pacquiao in with him as Mosley was too good and the majority were saying Mayweather was ducking him because he was scared.

When Mayweather did fight him and schooled him badly a large percentage on here thought Mosley was done and should hang them up, I didn't think that because I appreciate how good Mayweather is as a boxer so my attitude was to wait to see how Mosley did in his next fight, well we all seen him plod to a draw against a C level opponent so now nearly everyone on here thought he was done.

Now Pacquiao is going to fight him you think he should get credit for beating a fighter that nearly all of the board thinks is finished?

I mean come on...

 

It doesn't matter. Pac should be looking at quality fights not cherry picking shite. So much for being an ambassador for the sport.

Not that I agree with the fight but Pacquiao is a victim of his own success. Apart from Mayweather would anyone else out there be deemed a quality opponent?

Maybe Berto but if Pacquiao won most would say he wasn't in his class.

 

But stock is based on perception, not reality. Mayweather got a lot of credit going in to the Mosley fight because he was *perceived* as being at the top of his game because of an overreaction to his destruction of Margarito. He lost against Cotto before that, and was unimpressive against low caliber competition for about three years before that.

His stock rose for one reason and one reason only - Margarito. That's not a reasonable appreciation of stock, that's a speculative bubble. Mayweather never deserved full credit for beating Mosley, because the Mosley who we overreacting in ranking top 5 P4P didn't exist.

Mosley has just as little left now as he did against Mayweather. In fact, you could argue that he might be better because he's been more active recently than in the long layoff between Margarito and Mayweather.

In my view neither Pacquiao nor Mayweather deserve much credit for fighting or beating Mosley. But whatever they do deserve, they deserve equally since it was in a short enough timeframe that Mosley wouldn't have suddenly dropped off a cliff in skill and ability.

This gets brought up too often in ***** / ******* threads. I'm neither and the weight had nothing to do with this defeat. Marquez is a slower lesser version of Mayweather. Mayweather just set traps and made the counterpuncher attack him. The weight thing was lazy, but Mayweather has more skills than Marquez. Which is why I want to see the pac vs Floyd fight, I have no idea what would happen there.. but it would be great to watch.

No one else is on there level, they need to fight..
