See I think this is proof that Wood has has almost become an overnight sensation, so any Australian boxer looking for a payday/publicity is targeting Wood. Does anybody else see Green potentially offering him a fight at a catchweight? Somewhere in between LHW-CW? Fight news reported that Bika has also called him out, which I'm assuming would be at super middleweight if this went ahead. This would be a fun fight to watch, but I don't think it'd last the distance. http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/bika-targets-wood-69704 On the flip side, Wood's team know he actually has some leverage over who he fights, so they may end up putting him with a good fighter with skills but one he could beat so they don't blow the momentum to make some cash. Just because he beat Mundine, doesn't mean he could replicate it with Soliman, Bika, or even someone like Taylor. Anyone think I'm out of my mind picking Danny Dawson (assuming he wins his fight tommorow) to move up if Wood stays at MW?..
Mandatory challengers have always been flexible though with all the BS politics in the boardroom. Ok so Oral was mandatory, but do you known if Karmazin was a voluntary or mandatory challenger to Sylvester's IBF belt? I wish the IBF would hurry up and put out a release on if Sylvester must face Geale and the time frame. No other fighter is going to jump Geale's #1 ranking as the next would be Cory Spinks (who will replace Mundine as #3).
i 100% agree with u unsighned.....garth wood is a sensation and if anyone doubts that they cant see between the lines.he has huge backers, the guys that like to chuck money around for fun and they can choose the fights and have all the control..you watch he will get a fully fledged belt and show mundine hows it done.... the sponsors are all ready chucking money at him.....
http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/wood-offers-mundine-rematch-70909 Well fightnews.com have reported Wood has offered Mundine a rematch in April 2011 (at a 50/50 purse split). From Wood's corner this is probably where he can make the most money so I don't blame him for not going after Geale, Bika, or even Soliman. When I read Sylvester was being allowed to have another voluntary defense before he had to face Geale, I honestly thought the chips were falling in Geales favour but it appears this may completely shut out that option of Geale v Wood if Mundine takes the fight. Will be interesting to see what we hear from Mundine's camp over the next few days. Also just as I thought Green's name is tossed around there. Is it just me or don't boxing classes apply in Australia? How many times have you discussed boxing with a casual fan only for them to say Mundine v Green should happen and you have to tell them there are three weight classes (or two if you count Mundine's last fight) in between them and it's not easy to jump back and forth.
Blame him? They wouldn't be chasing Geale, Bika or Soliman. All 3 of them would bash Woods senseless, and he knows it. He knows he'll lose to Mandy next time round, but he's chasing the $$, naturally. He fluked it the first time, and is now doing the right thing by having a rematch because that is where thebig $$ are. Geale has no need to fight wood, waste of time fight. Why? He'll take the fight, that's a given. What other option does he have, Mandy must redeem himself. That's still on the script too, after Mandy beats Wood that is. Green / Mandy will happen at a catchweight, somewhere around LHW.
Karmazin was a mandatory, Oral was a voluntary and the IBF rules state that Sylvester has to defend against his mandatory 9 months from the Oral fight. So that fight was late October, he has to face Geale by July next year or be stripped of the title. Sylvester is taking another voluntary in January against Bouadla which he is entitled to do, so unless he fits another fight in again very soon after that, Geale will definetley be next probably April/May time. I think Wood is a good earner for Geale and he would destroy Wood and keep busy in the interim. Low risk, high reward. Mundine won't go near Geale, he won a razor thin decision last time and he has got worse since that and Geale has vastly improved. Great move by Grange bringing in Edwin Rodriguez for sparring for Geale for the Karmazin fight. Talented unbeaten prospect who Froch brought in aswell to spar for the Abraham fight. Geale will use him again im sure.
please explain defrauding the Australian boxing scene? I dont understand - Teke. My apologies Teke, I didn't see your question from the other day until I was scrolling this thread again. I'm not even going to debate or justify my opinion as to the defrauding the public - his whole career has been a fraud. 'World Domination', Mr-3 time baby' 'fighting Mayweather', 'going to America'...yada yada yada yada.... I actually agree with CHB and will probably answer the question with a question - what, your saying he provided value?
