His list didn't include many of the good names on Wlad's list such as Mercer, McCline, Barrett, Botha, Thompson, Brock. It's not just that he beat them, it's that he beat them easily & dramatically. Highlight reel material.................
Negative. The main problem will be to keep Chagaev from getting on the inside and landing his left in the process. Chagaev is a bad style matchup for Haye. Haye does not have Wlad's weapons to keep Chagaev off. Haye does not want to fight Chagaev and his recent actions speak for it.
If he loses against Chagaev that 30% loss of worldwide money now will seem like a chump change compared to the cut he would have to take to get a shot at Klitschkos again
After the Walker fight I would have to say that Haye (and any other top 10 HW) would easy destroy Chagaev. Even a shot Peter would murder him. Heck even a rookie like Helenius would dismantle this crap version of Chagaev. Not sure how his sickness may be related to his conditioning and performance levels, maybe he just became lazy and disillusioned much like Povetkin. I doubt Haye is scard of Chagaev. Rather, the problems with Chagaev as an opponent are 1. Chagaev is no draw whatsoever in the UK. The PPV numbers would likely be terrible after the Audley rip-off. 2. Chagaev is mandatory and can demand roughly 30% of what little purse is generated. 3. After Chagaev is paid off Sauerland hold their hands open and demand another hefty paycut. 4. Haye gets no rematch options on Chagaev in a mandatory defense. If he loses to Chagaev in a fluke KO the belt is gone and so is a big money showdown with the brothers. All in all fighting Chagaev is awfully unattractive for Haye from a financial and risk/reward point of view. The only positive for him is that he could free himself from the claws of Sauerland by making this fight and fulfilling the last option.
once again....IT WAS HAYE AND BOOTH WHO WANTED IT AS WELL remember this from a Haye interview: " I have to beat both brothers to be the true champion. I have no problem fighting both. I want to fight both. Now its up to the lawyers"
The only time Haye has ever shown problems with somebody getting inside was pre-prime against Fragomeni, who he came back to knock out anyway. Chagaev is not your typical pressure fighter. He's a bit rigid and mechanical, he displays decent head movement in getting inside but would struggle with Haye's footspeed. Haye is primarily a come-forward counter punch anyway, and such with counter-punch tendencies, he showed he box on the back foot against Valuev, and showed in that fight and against Harrison he can be patient and calculated. If he's struggling with his ability to time Chageav's head movement early, rather than allowing Chagaev free-reign to take control of the fight, he can circling around him on the back foot, use his under-rated jab until he feels he can time him. I don't see why Chagaev is a bad style match-up for Haye, he's beaten for speed of hand and foot which is going to make it difficult for him to pin Haye down whether Haye is boxing off the back foot with lateral movement or circling and controlling the centre of the ring. He'll find it difficult to come inside with just a bit of head-movement as he's not going to be able to jab his way in much, as he has a reach disadvantage and speed disadvantage meaning Haye's loose left-hand can be used to hook round any jabs. I think it's key that he jabs his way in, which is why he struggled against Wlad because he wasn't able to. Anybody else you feel presents a bad style match-up for Haye and beats him?
yeah but perhaps he wants a break in between fighting them, would you fight the klits one after another?
Seems to me like Haye is ready to put it on the line and has made his concessions, and its only a matter of days til Wlad signs. Don't know what everyone is complaining about really... this is great news! If they sign tomorrow it will be a great Christmas present
