Will Kevin Mitchell ever be a world champion?

Paulus Moses is an interim champion also, but he's the most likely to graduate to full championship honours, cos i cant see JMM giving him the time of day. It'd be the perfect route to a world title for Mitchell.
I think he should stay away from Soto tho, i see that being a 12 round schooling at this moment.

 

He is WBA regular Champ.

 

He might get a taste of the alphabet soup but he'll never be the man in his division.

Soto would make mincemeat out of him. Soto takes Katsidis for my money

As for can he win a world title, perhaps at 130lbs.

 

Alot depends on how he handles this defeat. Some fighters go downhill after being undefeated for a long time and suffering their first defeat.

It was not a damaging defeat in terms of physically being beaten up.

Of course, he has the ability to become a world champion belt holder, as there are poorer champions out there than Katsides.

It did show him that he has work to do, and I think his personal pride will dictate that he steps up a level now. It is 2 years of hard work to get to a shot at world title more than likely now! I have been concerned in the past that he takes alot of shots from poorer fighters to land his own though, and that is not conducive to a career at the highest level past aged 28 or 29 at best.

 

I dont think he will Mitchell and murray should just keep fighting each other for british and european title till they retire at least the british public will be happy.

For me Mitchell wasnt exposed in any other way other than technically against Katsidis , now how far can you take his preperation excuse , its a similar point when talking about Hatton and Pacquiao , fact is both were soundly beaten by better technical fighters .

Now

With that in mind , weve seen Katsidis get his ears boxed off by Diaz and Marquez and stopped (in a very very competetive fight) with Casamayor , that doesnt bode well for Kevin .

Im gonna call myself a hypocrite here and say after the Prescott fight i jumped all over the Mitchell bandwagon and had him picked to dance rings around Katsidis and show the world what he was made off , after looking at how easy it was for Kat to knock Kevin over im in doubt as to whether he's world class anymore .

All that said , can he be a world champion ??? , can he beat Marquez , Funeka , Soto , Katsidis , Diaz , Guerrero , Acosta ...................

For me NO , but can he be a world champion ??? ......... i think he can , these boys arent gonna be around forever , id like to see him fight Rees and get back to his roots , for me Rees is a great test for Mitchell and a win there would catapult him back into relevance , how big are his balls , IMO there big enough for him to get back to world level , how good is he technically , remained to be seen

 

Although Mitchell hadn't trained properly there was a huge gap in class between him and Katsidis.

There are proved to be a further huge gap of class between Katsidis and JMM.

I just cant see Mitchell ever getting to JMM's level but agree he may get some alphabet action over the next few years under Warren

 

Frank warren is capable of anything, I wouldn't put it past him to engineer a title-fight for Kevin. At 135, I'm not sure whether he'd take any of the top dogs out (kats rematch, jmm).

Hmmm, unless jmm becomes shot (give it another 6-12months) and that maybe his route. **** poor in anycase when your only Chance is to wait for the opposition to grow old!

Tbh i remember when he beat Prescott a brilliant disciplined display but far to many people got caught up in hysteria of that win and the Mendoza KO.

As the Katsidis fight neared i watched more and more of Mitchell and Kats and the two were operating at different levels mentally and physically.

I gave him a chance in my early posts but the more i saw the more i thought man vs boy.

Wrong weight for him by looks, maybe he can fill out more with a specific conditioning program? who knows. Also fact Prescott was a B Level banger who is dangerous for 4 rounds while he has sting in shots once you get past four he becomes ragged technically.

Tibbs done a blinding job mind...Mitchell was never that disciplined before. The night he fought Kat's i was there and never felt he was going to win...he boxed like a lad on borrowed time.

Snatching at his jab and looking like he was extending himself while Kat's laid in prey very reserved. Once Kat's stepped to next gear it was over...and Kat's didn't even break sweat.

I like Kevin but i don't see a World Champion in making unless Frank can do a Nicky Cook type job and slide him in against one of his own fighters or very weak chamoion.

I cannot believe he treated the Katsidis fight like that. Utterly baffling that he allowed himself to prepare like that. Plus i think the Prescott wins paper over many cracks.

All in All i don't count him out of winning a title but he will never be the main man in his division sadly.

 

there arew no WBU titles held by anyone any more. I hate when WBU is brought up like this...
