I just noticed that PBF's reach is 7 inches more than Hatton's....that seems huge, given that most fights I see there's a difference of maybe 1-2 inches tops. I have to think that with PBF's speed and reach, that Hatton's a goner. I'm assuming the only way Ricky can be effective is to stay inside and eliminate Floyd's "wingspan". Would like to hear your thoughts on this, and also if there have been any similar major fights where the reach advantage was this one-sided, yet the shorter-armed fighter won.
The number of fights won by shorter armed fighters throughout history are too numerous to list them all, but the most famous might be Ali-Frazier. Of course there is also Dempsey -Willard, Marciano against everybody ,Henry Armstrong against most of the welterweights he fought, Harry Greb vrs Gene Tunney, Willie Pep-Sandy Saddler... A long reach is useless IF the shorter dude gets inside. Thats Hattons problem Saturday.
Mosley's reach advantage wasn't too much for Cotto to overcome. Now let's talk about speed and technique...
Frazier/Ali, Marciano vs. everyone are good examples because they were considered less skillfull than there opponents as well as short armed. Hopefully Hattons getting some good looks at what made them successfull. Ricky, just don't watch Frazier/Foreman.
