And that's a huge blow to the greedy promoters pushing their own fighters ahead and keeping unsupported dangermen out in the cold, to the corrupt sanctioning bodies standing behind the major promoters for bigger fees, to the major networks creating the hype for the major promoters and to all the writers covering any **** up that doesn't fit in the 'official' picture. One by one they went down by a picture perfect counter left of Sergio Maravilla Martinez, giving the sport of boxing, sweet science a long awaited breather as air was totally sucked out by the shady businessmen and fights that failed to go through.

Sergio Martinez single-handedly turned 2010 from a feel-bad to a feel-good year, and it's the most fantastic feeling when someone from the 'outside' crashes through the well-guarded gates, when dedication, heart and determination outlast greedy promoters who successfully kept Maravilla away from their money-makers for long long years.

But when we'll look back to Maravilla's year in one or many decades, will 2010 be that special occasion when someone 'not in the script' made it despite everything working against him, or is this the benchmark year when sweet science took back the control from the businessmen and mobsters? I certainly hope that no other fighter will have to waste his entire prime because of the wrong passport or no rich people standing behind him, but whatever the future holds for us, let's just be happy that Sergio Martinez made it, it's quite a story!

    ^5 Maravilla! You earned it!

Hopefully all the potential energy of the MWs turns into something kinetic- lots of real exciting fights there for prospects and they ain't getting made!

    All right!!

He was really the only one who had a shot at it. No one else faced opposition as tough as he did.

Underdog both times and came through in spectacular fashion on both.

I guarantee you Pac gets it through some of the other boxing outlets though which like you said is just because of the guarded gate community the boxing celebrities have.

I really really wanna see a PBF-Martinez fight. Please make it happen next year!!!

**When will The Ring announce their choice for Fighter of the Year

good for Sergio .. his fights weren't hyped to the high heavens or on PPV, but he still fought and defeated two well regarded opponents

he's very deserving of the award and I'm glad he got it.

It was really only ever a two horse race between him and pascal, and pascal's disappointing performance against hopkins, combined with sergio's fantastic performance vs williams ensured that only one credible man could walk away with the accolade.

    Fantastically deserved sergio
