Toney by clear UD. He was an aggressive counter puncher, and an accurate puncher at that. Joe C gives him too many openings.

True. He was defending bogus belt against bums when rest of his generation fight the top guys.

    Then retired before getting beat.

Carl Froch has tied Joes resume in just a few years

:huh By getting a lucky decision against a puppy who may never amount to anything, or beating two guys who never proved anything above middleweight, or a guy who was lucky to get a hometown draw against a 45-year-old man Joe beat years before, or was it the close loss to a faded version of a guy Joe clearly defeated that equaled Joe's resume? :patsch...

...**** it's fun to unfairly exaggerate negatives!

Well maybe not yet, but he is couple of wins away from that.

    Calzaghes resume is very thin

A prime Toney didn't eat up Tiberi, Griffin or Thadzi, guys that would be slapped silly by Calzaghe. Toney for all his amazing natural ability had quite a few sub par performances against fighters he was supposed to beat easily. Calzaghe's win over Eubank is easily as good as Toney's best wins at 168.

Over a trilogy I see Joe winning twice, simply because he is more consistent.

Joe didn’t have over 80 fights. When you fight that many times you are bound to have few bad performances in the mix.

Besides Toney didn’t actually have bad performances in Griffin fights; he should have got the decision in both of them.

Griffin wouldn’t have been easy pushover for Joe either, he was actually very good world class fighter, who could have give Calzaghe all kinds of trouble.

But we won’t know how Joe would have feared against world class opponents, because after facing old Eubank, he decided to waste his best years by sitting on his bogus title for 9 years, before manning up and facing real opponents.

how could anyone think toney could beat calzaghe when in his prime toney had the following results

D - sanderline williams (11 defeats to his name)
    L - thadzi (8 defeats)
    L - griffin (twice)
    SD - sosa
    SD - tiberi
    SD - johnson

the sheer ignorance and narrow minded bull**** that comes out from HB0 puppets on here never fails to make me laugh

go back and read your delusional ring comics :rofl

some of you talking like toney was invincible and this is how he was performing in his prime against down and out bums :deal

Stellar posting once again from Team Elite Warrior, Headbanger. This post deals a deadly blow to the disgraceful, deluded minions who pollute ESB with their insular, ignorant views. :happy:bbb:dance:beer

Toneyboners pwned in a furious blaze of irrefutable scientific fact. :deal

    Exactly. Spot on.

Toney gets rated highly for what?
If you look at Calzaghes and Toneys resumes in the two divisions they both fought in (SMW & LHW). Calzaghe has a far superior resume in those two divisions and thats by Calzaghe only having two fights at LHW :patsch:lol:.

How did Calz get "picked apart" by Hopkins??? :rofl

Did you even watch the fight?? Between the pair, I don't think ten clean shots were landed all night.

people need to go back and watch james toneys last few fights at middle
his fights at super middle and then his light heavy career.

    watch the tiberi fight.

    tiberi was an in your face brawler/little skill/no power/no footwork/good chin/no jab/could not fight on the outside/
very slow of hand and foot.

but he had excellent stamina and heart and threw a lot of punches.

bar round 1 when toney dominated , tiberi simply outhusteled and outworked a toney who looked to punch in between the incoming shots , but was simply being outlanded .

toney was hurt by the simple accumilation of shots tiberi was throwing and his defense against a fighter willing to punch with him was very poor and he was easy to hit.

toney was gasping for air and staggering around the ring despertaly tired as early as halfway his abilty to potshot negated by a fighter who refused to let him come up for air.

toney all through his 6 fight 168 career balloned up inbetween fights nad it cost him v roy jones and IMO would have cost him v a style like joe calzaghe had.
