DeGale and Gavin in ESPN's top prospects list

A warning for Saul Alvarez could be in store early in the new year then.

The last few to have been touted as such by fat Dan are:

2009 - Danny Jacobs - destroyed by Pirog in 2010
2008 - Victor Ortiz - destroyed by Maidana in 2009
2007 - Amir Khan - destroyed by Prescott in 2008
2006 - Andre Berto - had a pretty poor 2007 and apart from staying unbeaten and cashing in large, undeserved cheques form HBO, hasn't done much since.
2005 - Joel Julio - lost to Quintana in WBA eliminator in 2006
2004 - Sam Peter - lost to Wlad in 2005
2003 - Jermain Taylor - didn't progress much in 04. 2005 was his breakthrough year properly
2002 - Miguel Cotto - ok decent pick but again didn't do much in the next year. 04/05 was the start of Cotto getting properly rated
2001 - Francisco Bojado - lost very next fight in 2002
2000 - Julio Diaz - lost to Angel Manfredy in 2001.

In summary, fat Dan's 'top prospect' means f-all. And you're right Kos it's only America that produces the top talent in boxing.

 

Am I the only who thinks Alvarez is getting waaaaaay too much hype?

 

I think Alvarez is good but i dont think he has the potential to be an atg, he is getting too much hype i think.

If Saul Alavarez is still considered a prospect then for me Nathan Cleverly takes this award hands down !!!!

Benavidez is a beast , and i really like Shawn Porter , all in all well worth a read that !!!

 

Extremely well schooled , sound in all areas , looks a little one paced but has all the hall marks of a fighter still in 1st gear

For me as it is now he's overhyped , but a lot of people are making a lot of noise about this kid !!

 

I'm getting bit bored with the Alvarez hype. He hasn't wow'd me with his boxing. He's a very physically
mature 20 year old. He's gonna be in great fights and shown he's got the want even when in trouble
unlike Ortiz. It be nice to see him start fighting live fighters.

I'm not sold on Alvarez either. He is lots of fun to watch though. His offensive arsenal is seriously diverse and he loves his combos. He's gonna be a star, regardless of whether he is a future HOF'er or not.

DeGale and Gavin are better prospects imo.

 

Frampton is unlucky not to make it in.

 

thats what I said about him a few weeks back. I just don't see what star quality he has that people are going on about to make him a top fighter. A belt holder yes but I don't see a dominant fighter in him at the minute. Still young though.

A bit of a **** list I'd have liked to see a few obscure fighters I haven't heard about or someone I could go look up. Seen almost all of them off the top of my head at one point in the last year or two except maybe the ghanaian at GBP. Will be interesting to see who is left come the end of the year though.

 

I think the problem is that GBP are desperate to get some ticket sellers.

They've been pushing Ortiz for ages and he's still not big news outside his hometown, and for me doesn't really have it against the best fighters, as proven against Maidana.

They'll also struggle because they aren't getting preferential treatment from HBO anymore either.

 

Mike Jones is a strange one, last time I seen him fight he wasn't the best I have seen, Kell Brook would make him look silly.

 

Jones is a good fighter- just starting blowing out of his arse in his last fight after thinking he had Soto Karras ready to go in the second round and wasted alot of energy.

 

He lost that fight.
