Calzaghe was an unbeaten, 2 weight world champion. He had a style that was adaptable enough to beat pretty much anyone he faced and make him competitive in any era if you ask me.

The Yanks are NEVER going to recognise him as a great fighter because he beat three of their fighters that they said before hand were going to beat and 'expose' him.

 

Yeah, he was protected. He was a good fighter, with quick hands, underrated defense and incredible stamina, which I think made him look even more impressive because he could throw a thousand punches like Pac man and never get tired. He beat Hopkins who was suppose to be shot and old at the time, who all of a sudden found the fountain of youth.:roll: But, I think the challenges weren't there. Roy and him avoided each other for a reason in the early part of their careers. A lot of good fighters make careers avoiding taking risky fights. He is no different from Roy Jones jr, Floyd Chicken Mayweather, and Manny Pac man, one of the biggest cherry pickers of our time.

 

I think the Americans love the fact that there are names missing off his record. Gives them an excuse to say 'oh yeah ........... would have KTFO Calzaghe'.

Truth is, Calzaghe would have beaten most of the fighters missing off his resume.

 

Also, I see u listed who beat who. Out of the 4 Calzaghe did fight, I think only Reid happened in 99. Wasn't Mitchell in 02 or 03? Brewer and Woodhall?

What were the rankings in the years Calzaghe actually fought them? I am using my phone and don't have proper access.

Hopkins resume is a lot better than Calzaghe.

Debating Calaghe fans is alot like debating supporters of George W. Bush. In each group's eyes, their guy is the best regardless of the reality of their true lame spoon fed and cuddled existence.

 

You could well be right, which furthers Calzaghes cause, because Reid and Woodhall both wouldnt fight Calzaghe in unification fights when champions, so Calzaghe beat then when they had everything to gain and nothing to lose. It proves Calzaghe took on challenges as he was taking on dangerous world class fighters where Calzaghe was the only one with something to lose.
Surely you can see the double standards. Ward is considered a marquee name for the simple fact of the S6 promotion and because he is American, but Wards best wins were over fighters Calzaghe beat already.

Wrong again. You really shouldnt try and debate on a subject you know so little about. In 24 title fights Calzaghe only fought about 11 of them in Wales. Less than half atsch.
All long reigning champs have some gimmes, in 22 title fights in a division that would happen. But I would only say around 7 are gimmes and 2 of those were because the fighters pulled out against Calzaghe, which would have only made 5 if that hadnt of happend
