I haven't seen buggerall of these guys, might have to look into it as i've been pretty lazy with following the more recent young performers.

Golovkin is a bit of a weird fighter to watch though from my limited exposure, theres something about his offense that i can't quite put my finger on. He doesn't punch in combination anywhere near as much as he should, and puts too much stock in finding openings with a roundhouse hook, when he looks like he could actually just chop a few jabs down the middle and setup up for bigger and better things.

His combinations are kinda weird and slow, measured, but its as though his combinations are just a series of individual punches (i know that sounds ridiculous), they don't have synergy between them.

He has good subtle defensive mechanics when he is thinking about it, but he gets careless when he is on the hunt, maybe because he is aware of the level of his opponents, and gets caught with shots whilst standing square on with his upper body, like a Muay Thai fighter.

 

You asked, and I answered. He's a prospect; he's simply not a pro prospect yet.

Yes, the two sports are different. But kindly tell me which of Vasyl's most desirable attributes are not readily transferable to the pro game? His hand speed? His foot speed? His overall ring generalship?? :huh

Have you seen the Naugler fight? David got frustrated over the last rounds, you could notice a slight change in attitude. He sets up the left hook by getting inside and throwing a lot to the body. Fast. As soon as his opponent's guard -in this case the right hand- leaves a hole, the left uppercut or left hook is thrown [relatively] fast. Works really well when he's got his opponent backed up against the ropes. His right is pretty effective... if the opponent doesn't back up i.e. dodges the right, he follows with a left to the body - see the Contreras KO.

He got hit flush by Ayala a couple times... smiled at him after the 1st KD. That was prime. I'm not uber worried about his chin.

He's still learning, and will greatly benefit from a Rubio fight. I'll limp in with a prediction and say he's gonna hold more than one MW belt at age 25. :smoke

 

I think you are on to something with respect to Lemieux's raw, one-punch KO at such an early stage in his development.

In fact, I cannot think of a single prospect with better one-punch power at the moment. :good

 

Anyone mentioned his calm?! Hunger? Head movement? Kid's like a sane Tyson in the ring.

 

Solid observation. For a fighter, especially a young fighter, to possess really heavy hands and yet avert the trap of becoming exclusively a head hunter speaks volumes about Lem's maturity and upside!
