    Joe Louis.

He was 137 years old when he lost to Rocky Marciano, so I make him 123 when he won the title.

Yes, Moore was almost 48 when he Giulio Rinaldi in '61 for the New York State Athletic Commission's title and was reconised as the Light Heavyweight Champion Of The World.

Thinking about it, the answer to this thread must be Moore aswell. He had just turned 39 when he beat Maxim for the 175 title.

Maskaev was 38 when he defeated Rahman to become world champ. At least for the HW division, he's the oldest 1rst time champ.

Er, he was 27/28 when he won a belt for the first time. Neither to oldest to win one first time round, the oldest to win a title at any time or the oldest to defend it.

If we want to be really pedantic here then Aussie joe bugner won the WBF title at about 49yr old
