Hatton had been fighting fairly average opposition when he stepped up against Tyszu. Cotto was the WBO champion with some good names on his record. Cotto's never been one for calling guys out, and Hatton was obviously looking to get out of his contract with Warren.

Some thought it would be a good fight, but it just didn't come about. Hatton tried the waters at welter and nearly lost, Cotto beat the hell out of Malignaggi and decided he couldn't keep fighting at 140.

So they switched, Cotto was obviously too big and strong at welter and Hatton was poor at that weight. So it wasn't ever a realistic proposition based on where both guys were at the time.

And Cotto would have hammered the ugly little ****.

No he didn't. Are you telling me Cotto faces Judah, Mosley and Margarito, and would have been scared of Hatton?

    Nah, I made it up.

Hatton and Cotto at 140 would have been a barnstormer. With Cotto being weight drained and watching him fold the way he did against Margarito, I'd have fancied Hatton to beat him.

I really wouldn't. Cotto has a much wider skillset and Hatton wasn't as relentless following the win over Tyszu. That fight finished his punch resistance and, simply, he lacked the skills to avoid Cotto's better punch selection.

A common misconception was that Hatton was a swarmer, but he wasn't. It was intelligent pressure, but he often wouldn't jab on the way in. Cotto's a methodical kind of fighter, and his own jab and excellent timing would mean Hatton would take hooks and uppercuts on the way.

I'd see a stoppage in the late rounds, with Cotto battering the Hitman's body and forcing him to his knees.

Remember talking to Billy Graham about this fight, he said they would've loved that fight to happen but only at 140.

He said Cotto was far too big for Hatton at 147

Spot on, Cotto suited 147 a lot better than Hatton. But IMO Hatton was a lot stronger and better suited to 140.
