Agreed, Mayweather shouldn't be ranked because he's basically retired and signs a contract to fight only because he wants/needs money, not because he follows the protocol of being a true professional athlete. But the P4P list is really just a set of opinions. One can make an argument that although inactive Floyd still has better skills than anyone in boxing which makes him the best P4P fighter. It really depends on how you judge. Is Michelangelo a better artist than Picasso because of the quantity or quality of artworks? Your call.

I believe guys who have not fought top competition in recent times should not rank high on the list. To stay on top a fighter must keep challenging and beating the best challengers available. So even if Pac is staying active he is no longer #1 on my list. Of course that can change a few months from now.

Mayweather should not be ranked 2nd he should not be ranked at all due to his lack of fights,i too love mayweathers skills but i now believe boxing does not need Floyd Mayweather anymore.

This is an exciting time for boxing in my opinion the next few years some stars will appear on the fight circuit Brandon Rios,Amir Kahn,Kell Brook,Timothy Bradley,Devon Alexander,Chaves jr,Benavidez,Berto.

Mayweather was once the face of boxing but now it is time to retire for good.

Amazing, yeah, at the top of the list in a magazine that's owned by his promoter, mind blowing stuff, who would have thought it....

I may not mind a fighter fighting once a year if that one fight is a foty candidate against a dangerous and at par opponent.

Floyd just fought in may. He deserves his ranking.

Also having mayweather out the p4p list would be bad for boxing. Mayweather gives the list more credibility than some of the others names who are currently on there who haven't fought anyone to gain such recognition.

Bad for boxing? How? I don't think anyone would give a ****, at worst a violent shrug of the shoulders from hardcore fans, and to be honest only a fool takes ring rankings seriously, it's a guide not gospel.

I agree that it's not been long enough since the JMM that he should be pushed out, but that times coming if he doesn't get his arse in gear.

it depends whether you want to view recent fights or past history i suppose.

Al floyds good work was over 5 year ago. Where Maravilla has had an amazing year, and last year was good. But before that his resume looks poor.

Same when Mosley was number 3, despite only one good performance in 3 years. (more due to his work early in his career.

I can't think of any fight he had that he wasn't supposed to win since Corrales. And that includes Pacquiao. The average casual fan, thought it was possible he could lose to Oscar, Hatton, and Mosley.

And the only thing making the Pacquiao fight interesting to the public, is Pacquiao's momentum has people thinking he has a chance. If this fight happens and it looks like all Floyds other fights by round 6, people will say it was a mismatch.

Even if he had fought different opposition, would you really bet against him and place him as the underdog against who??? Cotto? Margarito??? Clottey? Tszyu?? <<<<LOLOLOL! Jim Lampley said it best when he said "It didn't matter who Floyd Mayweather was facing tonight. The safe bet is Floyd Mayweather"

He deserves P4P number 1 and the Ring welterweight championship. The Mosley fight should've made that official. A win over Martinez (another fight id put the house on Floyd) or Pacquiao should give him the top spot.

If he doesn't have a legit fight signed for may i'm either taking him off my p4p list or giving it to someone else

I think over a year of inactivity justifies an omission for the list. As long as Mayweather fights once a year he'll keep that #2 spot.

    6 fights in 5 years

1 fighter 39 years old and shot
1 fighter 37 and 2 weight divisions below him
1 fighter 36 years old and loser of 2 of last 4 and and 2 of next 3
1 fighter 36 years old with 9 losses
1 fighter coming off a loss to a guy with 9 losses
1 fighter undefeated at junior welterweight fighting for welterweight championship

thats enough for me to prove hes number 1 at fighting old, past their primes big name stars or smaller guys

but with no names in the last 5 years that are young lions or future fightsagainst someone under 35 years old

    cotto
    margarito
    williams
    pacman
    2005 shane mosley

    or new breed
    Martinez
    Berto
    Bradley
    Khan

being number 2 is a load of ****....because in 5 years...he aint done ****

He's only fought twice in three years (excluding GFs and security gaurds), but as Floyd fans would say he beat the number two and number three pound for pound fighters lol

Although I rate the Marquez win as a farce, Mosley win was impressive and he atleast deserves to be a clear number two for that performance, given he was the top pound for pound before he retired.

His recent inactivity combined with Pac's demolition jobs has only served to lose him his claim to being considered 1a to Pac's number one status imo. Although if he doesn't do anything soon I can see Martinez overtaking him on most people's lists.
