i agree that the Super and Jr weight divisions need to go, they spread talent out thin and make it easy for fighters to duck each other, however I must disagree about CW, the weight disparity between 175 and HW has become quite alot over the last 25 yrs. So CW is not too bad IMO.

It's hurt the HW and LHW divisions in terms of quality. HW is now lacking a lot of the dextrous or quicker little guys that forced bigger Heavies to come in lower fighting stamina shape to compete with the speed and skill of the guys that are now cruisers. The LHWs are missing the smaller cruisers who would be big, powerful guys in that division. I think the CW division is why so many heavies are big useless fatties today.... And CW's CAN compete with the heavies, Holyfield, Adamek, Chambers, Haye prove that. especially with modern bulking methods the CW division is really quite useless

I don't know I like the 140 pound weight class its a big jump from 135 to 147, 12 pounds is almost a tenth of their body weight. If that is gotten rid of, then NEED to get rid of 122, 115, 108. So we would have 105, 112,118,125,135,147, 160, 175, hw 190+? without the junior divisions. Big jumps. 12 pounds is a LOT on a little guy, this is like 25 pounds on a 200 pound guy, because there is a certain skeletal weight and then the muscle and tissue on top. You would see guys who are 5'7'' or 5'6'' and thick set boiling and boiling down to 135 because they didn't want to fight 5'10'' 147 pound fighters

Bullsh*t. If you want to argue that boxing should return to the original eight classes, fine, but singling out 140 as a particularly useless division is silly. Outside of a few lulls here and there, 140 has been a consistently entertaining division. When you look at the size difference between lightweights and welterweights, especially after the era of same-day weigh-ins, it makes perfect sense to have a division between '35 and '47 for the big lightweights to make the transition, and for the small welterweights to be able to compete more effectively. There is a massive strength and size disparity between the average fighter who boils down from 160+ to make 147, and the average fighter who boils down from 150+ to make 140.

Just because physical phenoms like Mosley, Pacquiao, and to a lesser degree Oscar make 140 seem unnecessary doesn't mean it is. There are more great fighters worth mentioning that made 140 home, who would have been (and were) fish out of water seven pounds north.

If you want to make this argument (and even then you catch a backlash), focus on the sub-featherweight classes where divisions are separated by a 7-11 Big Gulp. 140 is one of the "junior" divisions worth having.

Floyd hasnt allowed fight night weighs for several fights now as far as i remember so who knows what he weighs in the ring fight night, if hes stopped it then its probably more than 150 imo, could even be 155 now

He said in the post fight press conference that he tried to get up to 150 for the fight and eat a lot after the weigh in and he said he trained so hard that he couldn't gain anymore weight and stayed at 147

I think he is lying, he looks nothing like 147, 155 is much more logical, id ont get why he doesnt do weigh ins on fight night, floyd looks a bit heavier nowadays, he looked bigger then mosley in their fight.

well he's the only source we got unfortunately. He said he trained harder in this fight than any other fight, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he's telling the truth. For the Marquez fight, he probably was in the 150's, but the highest I saw Floyd was in wrestlemania when he was retired and inactive and he was 159lbs (4 months after the Hatton fight)

Here is a different idea, instead of eliminating weight categories, have same day weigh ins. This will make people rethink their strategy on the weight issue. Fight at your weight or risk being dehydrated and weak. Just my opinion by the way.

You are basically saying that Floyd is smaller than Pac. That is simply impossible. Pac came in 148lbs against Margo. Floyd probably approaches 160lbs by just looking at the thickness of his body on fight night against Mosley.
